Kai Rooney Nets Four as Man Utd U18s Thrash Burnley 6-0
Kai Rooney scored four times as Manchester United Under-18s beat Burnley 6-0 on Tuesday, a result that lifted Darren Fletcher’s side to second place in the Under-18 Premier League North.
What changed for Manchester United
The 16-year-old forward delivered the defining performance of the afternoon, beginning his four-goal haul in the 22nd minute. Jaume Camacho’s header hit the post and Rooney reacted first to finish the loose ball.
Rooney struck again shortly after the interval from the penalty spot after Burnley captain Dylan Morison brought him down. He completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute, meeting Jay McEvoy’s corner with a header, before producing a powerful close-range finish three minutes later for his fourth.
Camacho added a late goal of his own and substitute Noah Ajayi completed the scoring as United recorded a six-goal win.
Competition context
The result gave United six victories from their first eight league matches and moved them into second in the northern section of the Under-18 Premier League.
Rooney, the eldest of Wayne and Coleen Rooney’s four sons, joined United’s academy in December 2020 at the age of 11. He has also made his first Under-21 appearance this season.
His progress comes within an academy group that has recently supplied senior debutants including Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Shea Lacey. Rooney’s father, Wayne, remains Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer and became a club great during his time at Old Trafford.
What is scheduled next
No next Under-18 fixture was specified following the win over Burnley. United will now seek to build on a strong opening eight-game league run, while Rooney continues his development between the Under-18 and Under-21 levels.
