Leaked PS4/PS5 Trophies for Black Ops 1 & 2 Hint at Missing Features

Even though a definitive release date hasn’t been announced yet, the upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 have reportedly had their complete trophy rosters exposed early. Based on what’s shown in those leaked lists, the new PlayStation releases may also be trimming some long-time, fan-recognizable features that existed in the original PlayStation 3 releases.

Last month, Activision and developer Iron Galaxy revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 are headed to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The announcement didn’t come with a wealth of details, but it did confirm that these releases are meant to be straight ports of the original Black Ops titles—not remasters or remakes. What’s still missing is the exact launch window, the price, and what content you’ll actually get when you buy them.

In a separate bit of Call of Duty news, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is finally receiving a highly requested update on July 7, with the timing landing nearly two years after the game’s initial release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Might Be Missing Wager Matches, Theater Mode, and League Play on PS4 and PS5

On June 7, full trophy lists for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 appeared on PSNProfiles. In broad strokes, the trophy lists line up closely with the original PlayStation 3 versions for each Black Ops game, but there are a few notable adjustments. As noted via community documentation on Twitter, two Black Ops 1 trophies appear to be removed for the upcoming PlayStation release: the “Date Night” trophy and the “In the Money” trophy. In the PS3 version, “Date Night” required players to watch a film or clip with a friend using Black Ops’ Theater Mode. “In the Money,” meanwhile, asked players to complete five Wager Matches.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s fresh PS4 and PS5 trophy list doesn’t seem to remove any trophies outright, but at least one requirement has been altered in a big way. The “Big Leagues” trophy originally challenged players to win five League Play matches after being placed into a division; in the new PlayStation lists, that trophy has been rewritten so that it only requires starting Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s main campaign. Taken together, these changes strongly point to the idea that the PS4 and PS5 ports may exclude Wager Matches, Theater Mode, and League Play. Even so, Activision and Iron Galaxy haven’t officially confirmed anything yet, so it’s possible the trophy lists are being simplified rather than reflecting full feature removal.

Another detail surfaced from the leaked trophy rosters: both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 appear to use separate trophy lists for each corresponding DLC pack, mirroring the structure seen in the original PS3 versions. What remains unclear is whether any DLC is included at launch for these ports, and whether DLC you previously bought for the original games will carry over to the new editions.

One last takeaway from the leaked trophy information is that native PlayStation 5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 appear to be on the table. The PSNProfiles entries show distinct trophy lists for the PS4 and PS5 versions of both Black Ops entries, suggesting the PS5 releases won’t just be PS4 versions running through backward compatibility.
