LEaked LEGO X-Files Set Spotted Early, Promises ’90s Throwback Fun

LEGO has an X-Files set on the way, and it’s already been spotted in the wild weeks before its expected window. The first leaked image points to a nostalgia-heavy build for fans of the ’90s sci-fi hit, while fresh whispers also claim LEGO intends to bundle the launch with an extra throwback-style gift.

This upcoming set traces back to a fan concept submitted through the LEGO Ideas program in January 2025. Under the program’s usual rules, most projects need at least 10,000 supporter votes before LEGO will consider them for production. This particular entry, however, was selected through a special challenge that asked builders to translate nostalgic ’90s moments into LEGO form. In June 2025, LEGO chose four submissions from a total of 191, including one based on the original run of The X-Files that earned the grand prize. Even after more than a year, LEGO hasn’t released a retail version of that winning design—but rumors suggest it may finally arrive before the end of summer 2026.

On top of the X-Files leaks, a separate real-world photo also claims LEGO’s first-ever Pikachu minifigure has been spotted, with reports saying it will be costly to get your hands on.

Finalized LEGO X-Files Set Sighted in Leaked Box Photo

LEGO’s X-Files set reportedly surfaced for the first time in early July 2026 after a seller posted a picture of the box ahead of schedule. The packaging image indicates the finished product stays close to the original challenge pitch titled “Build Your Nostalgia: 90s Throwback.” The design is presented as a two-story build: a forest UFO scene on the upper level, and Mulder’s basement office below. The set is said to land as part of LEGO’s August 2026 lineup.

LEGO Made Two Major Changes to the Original Fan-Designed X-Files Set

The leaked box art also suggests LEGO adjusted the winning fan submission in two significant ways for mass production. First, the UFO’s final look is flatter and rendered in gray, replacing the fan design’s more pyramid-like green structure. Second, Mulder’s office has been reduced in size, with the interior now closer to minifigure scale. The earlier concept reportedly used stacked furniture reaching roughly the height of three minifigures, while the production version appears to bring that down to about two minifigures. This lines up with a May 2026 leak claiming the LEGO X-Files set would contain 1,478 pieces—about a 25% cut compared to the original fan concept’s piece count.

Which one doesn’t belong?

The original fan design for 21369 was reportedly based on a lineup of seven minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Eugene Tooms, The Jersey Devi, Grey Alien, and Syndicate Leader. The newest leaked box image indicates that The Jersey Devil and Syndicate Leader won’t be included in the final production set. LEGO isn’t only bringing nostalgic Ideas projects to August 1 either—alongside this X-Files reveal, LEGO has also announced an extremely poseable E.T. set scheduled for the same date.
