Lamine Camara Focused on Monaco After Chelsea Deadline-Day Deal Collapsed

Lamine Camara has put his failed deadline-day move to Chelsea behind him and says his attention is fully on Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign after remaining at the club alongside Folarin Balogun.

Late transfer plan collapsed

Monaco and Chelsea had reached an agreement for Camara with only a few hours remaining in the summer window, sporting director Thiago Scuro said. The proposed sale emerged during a hectic sequence involving Balogun, whose expected switch to Everton initially appeared to have fallen through.

The French club had been under pressure to raise funds through the departure of Balogun or another leading player such as Camara in order to meet Ligue 1 financial regulations.

Camara focused on Monaco season

Speaking on Friday before Monaco’s trip to Strasbourg on Saturday, the 22-year-old said he had accepted the outcome of the Chelsea negotiations.

“There was a chance for me to go, but it did not happen at the very end,” Camara said. “That is football. I have moved on and I am concentrating on the season.”

The Senegal international added that he had remained professional throughout the uncertainty, insisting there was little value in revisiting a move that had already collapsed.

Strong start after PSG victory

Camara was one of Monaco’s leading performers last season and is highly regarded by new head coach Filipe Luís. He again impressed in last Friday’s 2-1 victory over defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Monaco’s form has taken them to the top of Ligue 1, and Camara believes a productive campaign will naturally bring further interest from elite clubs.

“I can bring a great deal to the team,” he said. “Football changes quickly and perhaps other chances will arrive, but my focus now is on Monaco and this season.”
