Jujutsu Kaisen: Surprising Survivors of Gojo’s Domain Examined

Satoru Gojo—known as the “Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era”—is one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s most lopsided characters. He’s built to represent pure, overwhelming power: raised within one of history’s most formidable clans, and gifted with two innate techniques, Limitless and the Six Eyes, that let him operate like a near-divine fighter. Even his presence carries that same contrast—charisma on the surface, dominance underneath.

So it’s not surprising that his Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void, is among the strongest examples of the technique shown in the original series. Instead of simply overpowering foes with force, it floods the target’s brain with endless information—so intense that only a small number of beings can endure it. Still, the story presents a few situations where certain characters managed to survive Gojo’s Domain, for reasons that highlight how different kinds of “protection” can matter.

Sukuna, meanwhile, is widely treated as the most dangerous figure in the original run of Jujutsu Kaisen. Here’s a look at the strongest forms of advantage and survivability he’s demonstrated—especially when it comes to withstanding Unlimited Void.

6 Gojo’s Playful Persona Is the Reason Jogo Survived

Jogo enters the series as one of the rare Cursed Spirits strong enough to be labeled Special Grade. He’s arrogant and cruel, taking pride in the destruction his flames bring. He even talks himself up, insisting no sorcerer alive can beat him—until he runs into Gojo. Without needing to overexert himself, Satoru takes control of the fight, showing Jogo just how far behind he is compared to the most powerful ally fighting for humanity.

When Jogo attempts to open his own Domain, Gojo reframes the moment as a lesson for Yuji, who’s still learning the rules of sorcery. Rather than letting the situation escalate, Gojo activates Unlimited Void to shut down the Curse’s attack. Trapped inside the endless loop of information, Jogo can’t respond or meaningfully try to escape. The technique doesn’t last long, because Gojo’s attention is on teaching Yuji—not on finishing the job.

Unlimited Void leaves Jogo badly hurt and temporarily unable to move or counter, but it doesn’t completely remove him from the story. His continued survival comes down to two key factors that likely kept him alive. First, as a Curse, Jogo isn’t subject to the same kind of information overload that Unlimited Void inflicts on human minds. Second, Gojo’s choice to toy with him rather than end the fight matters—because if Satoru had gone fully serious, Jogo wouldn’t have had a realistic path to victory.

5 Yuji Itadori Was Never in Real Danger Inside Unlimited Void

Jogo’s encounter with Gojo is brutal, with the Cursed Spirit taking the full weight of the attack. Yuji’s experience is different. At that stage of the series, the protagonist is still new to sorcery—only a couple of weeks have passed since he ate Sukuna’s finger. Because of that, his understanding of the techniques and abilities used by Jujutsu High is still very limited, and Gojo is fully aware of that gap.

Special Grade curses are exceptionally dangerous, and they can dismantle even top-tier sorcerers quickly.

Gojo’s Domain Expansion becomes an ideal training moment, both for showing Yuji how techniques like this function and for emphasizing how much further he has to grow before he can reach his master’s level. To keep Yuji from being harmed by Unlimited Void’s effects, Satoru stays close the entire time, shielding the boy from danger as needed. Once the Domain shuts down, Itadori shows no signs of damage—unlike most other targets who face the attack at full strength.

4 Satoru Tried to Shield Shibuya Station’s Civilians

The Shibuya Incident in Jujutsu Kaisen is both one of the series’ standout arcs and home to some of the most heartbreaking events in shonen manga. Even though the heroes do their best to prevent civilian deaths during the chaos, Kenjaku’s plans are difficult to counter fully. Not even Gojo can guarantee everyone remains safe inside the train station—so he’s compelled to use his Domain around the travelers.

The Disaster Curses unleash dozens upon dozens of corrupted human spirits meant to kill people inside the station. Many civilians initially assume they’re costumed for Halloween, which only adds to the tragedy. To stop the victims from being slaughtered, Gojo uses Unlimited Void for only a brief moment—just long enough to hold the monsters in place—then relies on his overwhelming speed and power to eliminate them.

Even that short activation is enough to leave serious consequences. Anyone caught within the radius of Unlimited Void falls into a deep coma, because their brains can’t process even the amount of information absorbed through the Domain. None of them die as a direct result of the technique itself, but they do lose most of their physical and mental abilities, underlining how lethal Unlimited Void can be when mishandled or used without a perfect understanding of who can survive it.

3 Mahoraga Was Protected by Sukuna Until It Could Beat the Domain

After Sukuna forces Megumi to become his vessel, Megumi’s soul is trapped inside his own body while the King of Curses prepares for the showdown against the heroes. As the battle moves forward and Sukuna decides to summon Mahoraga, he leans on his Domain Expansion to slow things down—enough time to set up the finishing blow. Unfortunately for the heroes, they don’t anticipate the fact that Ryomen Sukuna will use Megumi’s soul as a shield against the technique.

When Mahoraga is summoned for the first time, it’s expected to be overwhelmed immediately. But its adaptation ability takes longer to kick in than Unlimited Void takes to overwhelm a target. To prevent that mismatch from dooming the plan, Sukuna has Megumi’s soul absorb the brunt of the attack. That buys Mahoraga the time needed to adapt, allowing the Divine General to quickly get past the Domain and break it. Without this grim countermeasure, Mahoraga likely wouldn’t have played the major role it ends up having during the final conflict.

2 Megumi Fushiguro Was “Lucky” He Didn’t Have a Body During the Final Battle

Megumi is treated as a genius with potential that can rival the strongest sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen, but at this moment he’s still fundamentally a regular human. He doesn’t have a Cursed Tool to guard him, nor a broken ability that guarantees safety. Since his soul gets used more than once as protection for Mahoraga, some fans question how he can withstand not just one, but several separate Unlimited Voids. The explanation is simpler than it first appears.

Gojo vs Sukuna ends with Gojo’s death, but the original plan for the fight is later clarified.

Megumi’s body doesn’t take direct damage from Gojo’s Domain Expansion. Sukuna only manifests Megumi’s soul as a shield for Mahoraga, meaning the physical body isn’t connected to the overload in the way it usually would be. Still, Megumi’s soul gets knocked unconscious briefly, since it still experiences the technique’s information barrage. The key difference is that there’s no physical form present to accumulate that harm. In that sense, Megumi is “fortunate” that he isn’t linked to his brain during that period—because if he were, he likely would have died.

1 Ryomen Sukuna’s Power and Cursed Energy Mastery Gave Him the Edge

Known as the King of Curses and described as the most powerful sorcerer of the Heian Era, Sukuna isn’t just a threatening endgame villain—he’s essentially a walking engine of destruction, built to spread chaos and suffering. His lifelong pursuit of power reaches its peak when he takes over Megumi Fushiguro’s body, securing one of the strongest innate techniques and gaining access to Mahoraga. With that level of strength and versatility, it makes sense that he could survive Gojo’s Domain more than once.

Sukuna’s command over Cursed Energy—and the raw scale of his power—can be matched only by Satoru himself, meaning he has the tools necessary to counter Unlimited Void. Ryomen has multiple ways to either destroy Gojo’s Unlimited Void or protect himself from the technique’s nonstop flood of information. One of his most effective approaches is to open his own technique at the same time, so the two attacks clash and cancel each other out.

He can also use his Shrine, an extremely versatile innate technique that fires slashes capable of cutting targets at a subatomic level. With that offense, Sukuna can aim at the edges of the Domain. Doing so causes the technique to collapse immediately, preventing any real damage from being delivered. In fact, Sukuna is portrayed as the only character across the entire Jujutsu Kaisen franchise who not only survives Unlimited Void, but does it through his own methods—without relying on help from outside factors.
