How to Unlock Ash Greninja in Cobblemon Mega Showdown (Battle Bond)

Ash Greninja isn’t part of the standard Cobblemon experience, but players who want the iconic transformation can still add it—so long as they use the right mod chain. The key is Cobblemon: Mega Showdown, which allows Greninja to become Ash Greninja when you apply an Ash Cap item, giving it the distinctive Battle Bond ability.

Release & platform details (mods and availability)

Component What it’s used for Where players download it
Cobblemon: Mega Showdown Enables Greninja → Ash Greninja conversion via Ash Cap CurseForge / Modrinth
Radical Cobblemon Trainers (RCT) Provides trainer-battle support so Battle Bond can function CurseForge / Modrinth

There’s an important caveat: Battle Bond only matters during trainer battles. Since Cobblemon itself won’t automatically cover that behavior, you also need Radical Cobblemon Trainers so trainer battles exist in the same way the mod expects.

In addition to the Ash Greninja walkthrough, the original guide also points players to a separate crafting topic: how to make every type of mulch in Cobblemon, plus which berries work best on them.

How to Get Ash Greninja in Cobblemon: Mega Showdown

  • Requirements: Cobblemon: Mega Showdown (CurseForge / Modrinth), Radical Cobblemon Trainers (CurseForge / Modrinth)

To obtain an Ash Greninja in Cobblemon: Mega Showdown, start by getting a Greninja, raise its Friendship value to 250 (the guide notes this as the maximum level), then craft an Ash Cap and apply it to Greninja using right-click.

Step #1: Get a Greninja

You can obtain Greninja in Cobblemon by picking Froakie as your starter and evolving it, or by capturing a Froakie, Frogadier, or Greninja outright in the wild. The guide specifies that all three are ultra-rare spawns found in the Bamboo, Freshwater, and Jungle biomes.

Step #2: Increase Greninja’s Friendship

Friendship can be raised in multiple ways: leveling up, walking around, winning Pokemon battles, or using friendship-boosting berries. The berries listed are Tamato, Qualot, Pomeg, Kelpsy, Hondew, and Grepa.

If you want Friendship gain to move faster, the guide recommends holding a Soothe Bell on Greninja, or catching it in a Luxury Ball.

To check Greninja’s current Friendship, open the Pokemon status screen, switch to the third tab, and click Other.

Step #3: Get Ash Cap

The guide says Ash Cap is craftable using Red Wool, Green Wool, and White Wool, with the recipe shown in the source.

Step #4: Give Ash Cap to Greninja

Put Ash Cap into your hotbar, then take Greninja out of its Poke Ball and right-click it. When the conversion works, you’ll see a large number of red hearts around Greninja’s model. If those hearts don’t show up, that indicates Greninja’s Friendship is too low to trigger the change.

To verify the result, open Greninja’s status screen and check its ability—the ability name should now display Battle Bond.

Step #5: Activate Ash Greninja

To trigger the transformation, fight a trainer with more than one Pokemon. Defeat the first Pokemon using Greninja. When the second Pokemon is sent out, Greninja will transform into Ash Greninja, its stats will get a boost, and its Water Shuriken move becomes more powerful.

If Greninja’s Friendship was below 250 when Ash Cap was used, it will still gain the Battle Bond ability, but it will not turn into Ash Greninja during battle.

If Greninja’s Friendship was at 250 when Ash Cap was used, it will gain Battle Bond and it will also transform into Ash Greninja in battle.

How to Get Ash Cap in Cobbleverse

In Cobbleverse—described as one of the most popular modpacks for Cobblemon—you can’t craft Ash Cap directly to obtain Ash Greninja. Instead, the guide instructs players to find and battle Ash Ketchum; defeating him makes Ash Cap drop on the ground.

To reach Ash’s location, you first need to craft an Ash Key, an Empty Map, and a Cartography Table.

Kanto Cartography Table Recipe

After you have all three items, place the Kanto Cartography Table on the ground and right-click it. Put the Empty Map in the left slot and the Ash Key in the middle slot. Once the brief progress step finishes, an Ash Map appears in the output. The map shows where Ash’s house is located within 10k blocks.

Optionally, the guide notes you can use the Battle Seeker in the third slot of the Kanto Cartography Table while crafting the Ash Map. Doing so increases the map range from 10,000 to 25,000 blocks, making the location easier to track down.

As an alternative method, you can also open the command menu and type /locate structure cobbleverse:ash to get the coordinates for Ash’s house directly.

When you locate Ash, defeat him in battle and he will drop Ash Cap. The guide also stresses preparation: make sure you have at least 4–5 badges before fighting, since the author’s run featured Ash using a full team of level 40 Pokemon with optimized move selections and strong stats.

If Ash Cap doesn’t appear next to Ash after the fight, check his room—sometimes the item is placed on his bed instead.
