How to Obtain Mulch and Boost Berry Tree Growth in Cobblemon

Mulch is a fertilizer item in Minecraft’s Cobblemon mod, designed specifically to speed up berry farming. In practice, it’s used to supercharge how quickly berry trees grow: each berry tree type has a “preferred” Mulch variant, and applying that correct Mulch to the tree’s sprout can dramatically improve growth speed, shorten the time until berries ripen, and boost how much you get at harvest.

Below is a practical guide to adding the Mega Evolution mechanic to Cobblemon in Minecraft, using Mega Showdown and Navas ZA Megas.

How to Make Mulch in Cobblemon

There are seven Mulch varieties in Cobblemon: Sandy, Humid, Peat, Coarse, Loamy, Surprise, Rich, and Growth. You can craft each of these at a Crafting Table, but they all start from the same base item: Mulch.

Before you can craft the usable variants (Sandy, Humid, and the rest), you must first craft base Mulch from Bone Meal, Rotten Flesh, Dirt, and Paper.

Once you have the base Mulch item, you can create the different Mulch types by combining it with one extra ingredient at the Crafting Table (the specific additions are listed in the sections that follow).

How to Use Mulch in Cobblemon

Mulch is applied to a freshly planted berry tree. Right-click the tree during its earliest growth stage to apply it. If you need to change your approach, you can remove the applied Mulch using a Shovel.

To set up berry trees in the first place, use a hoe to create farmland on dirt. Then right-click the farmland while holding the berry you want to plant.

For Loamy, Coarse, Peat, Humid, and Sandy Mulches, the effect is tied to biome simulation. Each berry has a preferred biome it grows best in, so using the matching biome-style Mulch is one of the simplest ways to make that berry reach maturity faster.

Growth, Rich, and Surprise Mulches don’t just emulate a biome—they provide special effects, summarized in the table below:

Increases the growth rate of the berry tree for 3 harvests

Increases the yield of the berry tree for 3 harvests

Increases the chance of mutations on the berry tree for 3 harvests. Can also mutate Revival Herb into Mental Herb, Power Herb, White Herb, or Mirror Herb.
