Hagoromo’s Legacy: Naruto Characters Who Matched the Sage of Six Paths
In Naruto, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki is remembered as the Sage of Six Paths—Kaguya Ōtsutsuki’s eldest son and the first to openly defy her. After teaming up with his twin brother, he ultimately defeated Kaguya, stopping the threat of total collapse. From there, Hagoromo shifted toward spreading the message of peace, while also becoming the jinchuriki of the Ten Tails—an upgrade that dramatically increased his overall power. With strength like that on the table, it’s no surprise that only a small slice of the cast can plausibly measure up to Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki.
Release/platform tracker
This piece focuses entirely on character power rankings and in-universe abilities across the Naruto franchise and its related titles, including Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. No specific game release dates, platforms, or editions are mentioned in the source material.
The Narutoverse is packed with characters who can hit far beyond normal limits. The list below highlights the current strongest options—framed as potential rivals to Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki.
5 Kaguya Ōtsutsuki
- Reason: Has several one-shot abilities
For many fans, it would be strange to talk about anyone who could rival Hagoromo without bringing up Kaguya’s name. She’s known as the Rabbit Goddess, and her reputation is built on ruthless actions and overwhelming strength that made her feared across the world.
Kaguya is described as the origin point of chakra on Earth, and her personal chakra output is correspondingly massive. She can draw from enormous reserves to cast techniques that no typical fighter could realistically replicate. One example: she can form a gigantic Truth-Seeking Ball capable of shattering an entire planet and reducing it to dust. She can also employ the All Killing Ash Bones—an approach so lethal that, in a single strike, it can overwhelm an opponent.
If her situation starts to go badly, Kaguya can activate Amenominaka to shift dimensions and regain footing. On top of that, she’s immune to standard ninjutsu. She doesn’t just survive direct confrontations either; she can disintegrate Sasuke’s full-body Susanoo just by touching it. At her peak, Kaguya is framed as unstoppable—and even Hagoromo wouldn’t be able to win a straightforward one-on-one fight.
4 Madara Uchiha
- Reason: Veteran fighters with decades of experience
Madara Uchiha is a powerhouse whose legend echoes through the ninja wars long after his death. Still, the standard version of Madara wouldn’t stand a chance against the Sage of Six Paths. The Ten-Tails jinchuriki version, however, changes the equation.
Once Madara becomes the jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, his strength multiplies dramatically. He doesn’t just receive deeper chakra reserves—his physical performance improves as well. This version is also equipped with both Rinnegan eyes, which grants access to all six paths and enables Limbo clones. It’s also noted that Madara is referred to as the Second Sage of Six Paths. With all of that in play, his fight against Hagoromo wouldn’t be the one-sided stomp many might expect; instead, it’s framed as an extremely tight call.
These are the most powerful byakugan users in Naruto, ranked from weakest to strongest.
3 Isshiki Ōtsutsuki
- Reason: Arguably the strongest Ōtsutsuki
Isshiki Ōtsutsuki appears as a major antagonist in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Portrayed as fundamentally malicious, he takes control of Jigen’s body and remains in command until he can locate a suitable replacement vessel. Within Jigen’s form, Isshiki can use his abilities, though certain constraints prevent him from fully going all out.
Fans do get a clear look at his capabilities in the manga. At full strength, Isshiki dominates both Naruto and Sasuke—an extraordinary accomplishment, especially considering both are depicted at their prime. Even so, his presence wouldn’t be as overwhelming without his dojutsu. Isshiki’s Kokugan grants access to Sukonahikona and Daikokuten. Sukonahikona lets Isshiki shrink any inanimate object and even himself instantly, helping him dodge incoming attacks and lessen their impact. Daikokuten, meanwhile, allows him to store shrunken items inside a dimension where time continues to move differently. Given that toolkit, it’s suggested that Isshiki could push Hagoromo past his limits.
2 Naruto Uzumaki
- Reason: Can kill anyone with the Baryon Mode
Naruto Uzumaki is the story’s main hero, and he’s consistently popular for his kindness and empathy. Fans also love him for his powers—especially the Six Paths Sage Mode, which significantly boosts his chakra, damage output, regeneration, and speed.
While that form is enough to handle most threats throughout the series, this specific version of Naruto still can’t match the Sage of Six Paths on pure terms. The only route for Naruto to beat Hagoromo is to trigger Baryon Mode. In this mode, any of Naruto’s attacks can cut into the target’s lifespan. Even if attacks get blocked, the enemy still loses lifespan as long as they use their own body to resist the strike. The biggest trade-off is that Baryon Mode effectively costs Kurama’s life.
1 Hamura Ōtsutsuki
- Reason: Ancestor of the Hyūga Clan
Hamura Ōtsutsuki is Hagoromo’s younger twin brother. He’s the only person who supports his sibling during the rebellion against their mother. Hamura stays through the entire stretch of fighting, remaining beside him until the two finally seal their mother away for good. Unlike Hagoromo, Hamura chooses to leave Earth and instead watch over Kaguya.
Over time, Hamura becomes the leader of the people living on the moon. He earns their respect due to his exceptional strength. Hamura wields the Tenseigan, a dojutsu compared to the powerful Rinnegan. He can also use Tenseigan Chakra Mode, a state where he gains access to Truth-Seeking Balls as well. With their respective capabilities, a clash between Hagoromo and Hamura is positioned as an especially epic matchup.
