GTA 6 Rumor Claims a 60 FPS Mode for PS5 and Xbox Series X
A fresh set of claims suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 may be aiming for a 60 frames-per-second performance option on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Speculation about GTA 6 hitting higher frame rates picked up momentum in 2025, though at the time many players assumed that if a 60 FPS mode existed, it would likely be limited to the PS5 Pro.
Back in July 2025, a self-described insider alleged that Sony had teamed up with Rockstar to help ensure GTA 6 could run at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro. The rumor claimed Sony even dispatched engineers to Rockstar to assist with the effort. More recent reporting, however, points toward the possibility that the performance mode won’t be locked to a single upgraded console model.
Beyond inflation-adjusted comparisons, other financial information also implies that GTA 6 moving to an $80 price point may not automatically make it the least affordable Rockstar release.
60 FPS Performance Mode for GTA 6 Is in the Works, Sources Claim
A recent episode of the Polish podcast Rock and Borys featured one of the hosts stating that they had spoken with a source described as “very close to Rockstar Games.” The source’s claim is that GTA 6 will include two separate graphics options: a 30 FPS quality mode and a 60 FPS performance mode. The podcast host, Borys Niespielak, has a reputation for uncovering details about The Witcher 3 before official announcements, which the hosts argue lends weight to their GTA 6 frame-rate information compared to earlier rumors.

The Rock and Borys hosts also referenced an earlier GTA 6 listing on the Polish MediaMarkt website. That listing reportedly included both performance and quality references in the game’s official description. Since retailers usually receive these descriptions from official channels, some viewers treated the entry as meaningful support for the idea that GTA 6 will include a 60 FPS option. Even so, as with many pre-release leaks, the details should still be approached carefully.
GTA 6’s Rumored 60 FPS Mode Might Come With a Catch
In the podcast discussion, the hosts said their source believes Rockstar is still searching for a technically viable method to deliver the 60 FPS performance mode. They added that, because sustaining such a high frame rate in a visually heavy game like GTA 6 is difficult, the option might not be available at launch. Instead, it could potentially be introduced later through a post-release update. The hosts also claimed that Xbox Series S currently supports only the 30 FPS mode, though they noted Rockstar may not have definitively ruled out a performance option for the entry-level console.

Why Getting 60 FPS in GTA 6 Is a Big Challenge
Prior commentary from industry experts has explained why GTA 6’s enormous open world makes consistent 60 FPS on consoles hard to achieve. Even a former Rockstar developer has suggested that GTA 6 could be better suited to a 30 FPS approach, since it gives the studio room to build a more detailed version of the game’s world. While many AAA titles increase frame rates by dialing back graphical settings, that strategy may not translate cleanly to GTA 6. The combination of a dense environment, numerous NPCs, many rendered elements, and detailed locations likely creates a heavy workload for both the CPU and GPU—something that can be much tougher to solve through visual reductions alone.
