Gothic 1 Remake: Faction Choices and Multi-Step Quest Chains Explained
Gothic 1 Remake kicks off with three big factions you can throw your lot in with: the Old Camp Shadows, the New Camp’s bandit crew, and the Swamp Camp brotherhood. Each path isn’t just a single decision—it’s built as a multi-step quest chain, where a bunch of smaller objectives feed into one larger “container” mission that tracks your progress toward full membership.
Admission to the New Camp is the quest that monitors your climb into the New Camp. Below you’ll find the practical steps for building your reputation with Lares and earning your way into the bandits’ ranks.
Use the objectives below to jump straight to the part of this guide you need.

How to Start Admission to the New Camp
If you arrive at the New Camp with Mordrag as part of the Out of Sight Old Camp quest, he’ll hand you a ring and tell you to speak with Lares after you get there. That conversation kicks off Admission to the New Camp.
Alternatively, if you’ve already found your way into New Camp, you can win the Rice Lord’s approval by finishing both A Few Too Many Drops and Up to His Neck. After that, you can talk to Lares to move the Admission to the New Camp quest forward.
How to Impress Lares
- In-game objective – “Lares wants the 400 ore nuggets”
Once you reach New Camp, go straight to Lares. His home is inside the Free Mine area — specifically past the rice fields, up the hill, and over the lake dam.
From the Free Mine entrance, look for Lares’ hut down the slope to the left.
Head left at the first break between the huts, then walk toward the pair of guards. Tell them you’re there to see Lares.
Higher up the stairs you’ll meet Lares’ guard, Roscoe. You’ll need to convince him to let you through—either by using Mordrag’s Ring or by presenting the Rice Lord’s blessing.
After you finally get the chance to talk with Lares, if you ask to join the camp, he’ll give you a task: help deal with a local Swamp Camper. This begins the A Piece of the Pie quest.

Finish A Piece of the Pie to push Admission to the New Camp forward.
How to Impress the Rice Lord
The Rice Lord is the NPC standing in the raised hut in the middle of the rice fields.
When you’re just starting out, he can give you two quests, and you’ll need to complete both before you can progress Admission to the New Camp. The first is A Few Drops Too Much, and the second is Up to His Neck.
- 100 + 200 Experience Points
- 25 Ore Nuggets
- 150 + 300 Experience Points
- 50 Ore Nuggets
- Rice Lord’s approval to speak to Lares
The guidance in the table above helps with A Few Drops Too Many. Up to His Neck is longer and takes you through several new areas that are easy to get turned around in—so use the links above to jump to the dedicated walkthrough for that quest when you’re ready.
Other Important Quests
Beyond the main reputation builders, New Camp has additional quests you can complete to strengthen your position. These are simpler than the bigger storyline tasks—you just need to finish them to keep moving your standing with Lares.
- 100 Experience Points per cycle
- 300 Experience for beating Lefty up

Final New Camp Quest
After you complete every earlier quest listed on this page, Lares will allow you to begin the last mission: The Raid.
Near the Point of No Return
You’re close to the finish line, but don’t overlook this warning: completing Admission to the New Camp will immediately lock you out of finishing the Admission to the Old Camp or Admission to the Swamp Camp quests. Once you commit, you’re committed—your allegiance determines how you move forward in the game. If you’d rather join another camp, or at least see what the other options look like first, don’t complete this quest yet.
- Completes Admission to the New Camp
When you do complete the mission, Admission to the New Camp finishes automatically as well. You’ll earn 1500 Experience Points, receive the Bandit’s Dress Armor, and gain New Camp allegiance—meaning you’re officially a New Camper now.
Finishing this quest also unlocks Chapter 2: The Minecrawlers’ Nest Walkthrough, which has its own separate walkthrough page.
