Five Zombies Guide: Turn on Pack-a-Punch via the DEFCON Panels

In Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 3, activating Pack-a-Punch on Five requires more than just finding a machine—it’s tied to the map’s DEFCON system. You’ll need to interact with all four DEFCON panels in the Pentagon War Room. Doing so grants 115 clearance, which lets you teleport straight into the hidden meeting space where Pack-a-Punch is located. Below, you’ll find the key locations you need—starting with the power switch and the panel spots—so you can Pack-a-Punch on Five.

How to Activate Pack-a-Punch on Five

To get started, open the doors on the left when you spawn in. There’s an elevator on that side that you can unlock, then use to reach the War Room. Because the area’s power is offline at first, your initial goal is to restore it—so make your way downstairs in the War Room toward the second elevator.

After you enter that elevator and go down into the secret laboratories, head to Room 3 to locate the power switch. Keep in mind that once you activate the power (and while you’re in the lab zone), Nova Six Crawlers can spawn. They won’t appear naturally upstairs, though—so if you avoid staying in the labs after flipping the switch, you won’t have to deal with them later.

With power restored, you can now buy Perks. At the same time, teleporters become active across the map: in every corner of the laboratories, at the center where you switched the power on, in the center of the War Room, and upstairs in the spawn area. Since those teleports can drop you into random spots, for now just ride the elevator back up to the War Room.

Now you’ll deal with the DEFCON side of the system. In the War Room there are four DEFCON panels you can interact with, and you can hit them in any order. Each panel you activate increases the DEFCON Level, taking it from 1 up to 5:

  • On the wall to the left of the elevator that leads to the laboratories.
  • On a wall to the left of the wooden double doors, near where JuggerNog is located.
  • Upstairs, to the left of the elevator, back in the spawn area.
  • Upstairs, to the right of the elevator, back in the spawn area.

When you’ve interacted with all four panels, the announcer will confirm that you’re now in DEFCON 5. At that point, you can go to any teleporter on the map to teleport into the Pack-a-Punch room. The Pack-a-Punch machine will appear as part of the room’s reveal, and you’ll get about 30 to 45 seconds without zombies.

After that timer ends, the double wooden doors open to let zombies inside. Enemies can also come in through the barriers to the left and right of the teleporter, meaning this space becomes much less safe when the countdown finishes. Once the last player leaves, the doors shut again, and if you want to Pack-a-Punch once more later, you’ll need to repeat the DEFCON process.
