Final Fantasy VII Revelation Adds Story DLC for Sephiroth and Vincent

Final Fantasy VII Revelation won’t be saying goodbye when its main story ends. After a recent State of Play, game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the end of the Remake trilogy will be followed by two narrative-focused story DLCs, spotlighting two of the franchise’s most beloved and charismatic figures: Sephiroth and Vincent.

The announcement also marks a notable shift from the position Hamaguchi had been taking earlier. For months, he had been emphasizing that the base game would deliver a decisive conclusion to the story, and that any additional downloadable content—if it happened—would likely stay in the realm of side material, more like a spin-off than an extension of the main plot. Now, the plan has clearly changed, with the company committing to expansions built to expand the narrative rather than merely add optional content.

Hamaguchi explained the turn through his own social media posts. After the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, he said they received many requests for DLC from both fans and media, and the team ultimately decided to make that demand real. He also pointed out a communication choice: instead of waiting until after launch to unveil the expansions, they opted to share the plan before the game hits the market.

This decision aligns with the broader momentum around the franchise. Earlier in the year, Hamaguchi acknowledged the scale of expectations surrounding the series, noting that the community’s sentiment strongly suggested players didn’t want the story to end yet—though at the time he couldn’t confirm anything. With that ongoing support and the continued push for more content, the DLC slate became the natural next step, with both additions designed to dig deeper into the stories of Sephiroth and Vincent.

At the moment, specific story details are limited, but the core outline is clear. The first DLC will focus on Sephiroth. The second expansion is titled Vincent and the Turks, a name that strongly indicates a closer look at Vincent’s past and his connection to the Turks. Both DLC entries will be part of the Story Expansion Pass, and they will also be available as individual purchases after release.

Square Enix has also shared timing. The two expansions will arrive in staggered releases between winter 2027 and spring 2028, following the launch of the base game on April 8, 2027. While more information is still needed—such as where these stories slot into the overall timeline or whether either character becomes playable—the fact that the game’s world will continue through major narrative content built around two iconic figures should be a welcome sign for longtime players.
