Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening: New Activities, Mythic 3.0 & QoL Changes
Diablo 4 is kicking off its Season of Death Awakening with a broad set of changes: a major Mythic Uniques 3.0 overhaul, new endgame-style activities called Pandemonium Ruptures, the first step of Tower and Leaderboards coming out of testing, a Warlock free trial, and a raft of quality-of-life adjustments. Here’s what’s actually new, how it connects, and why it matters for how players will gear, grind, and flex in public.
Warlock free trial window
From June 30, 2026 through July 7, 2026, everyone can try the Warlock for free. During the event, you can play a Warlock up to level 30, making it a straightforward way to test the class before committing to a full build.
Pandemonium Ruptures: a new loop for loot and progression
Pandemonium Ruptures are arcane rifts appearing across Sanctuary. They’re designed as an action-heavy encounter: you fight through waves of enemies, take on a familiar boss, and chase special rewards that come via Deathtoll Chambers.
There are three types of Ruptures, each with different conditions and outcomes:
- Ruptures (Normal)
- They can appear throughout Sanctuary’s overworld, with a higher presence in Helltides.
- Surging Ruptures
- They can replace any local event that would normally occur within a Helltide.
- Colossal Ruptures
- They only show up in the Fields of Desecration, specifically in the World Boss Arena southeast of Zarbinzet.
To work a Rupture, you’ll fight guardians around Death’s Head Idols, then create an opening Rupture and place a ritual ring. The longer you keep the Rupture active, the more rewards you earn. You can also see Rupture Goblins spawning anywhere, which open additional Ruptures—so the activity can scale into a chain of objectives rather than a single stop.
Season 14 also tweaks the pace: the time required to close tears inside Ruptures is reduced, and new tears appear more quickly. At the same time, mob density and Elite spawning on Normal Ruptures are reduced, and sealing Ruptures yields more Pandemonium Fragments.
Those Pandemonium Fragments are the key currency. You can gain them from the Reputation Board and by defeating the Seasonal Lair Boss, then use them in the Horadric Cube to craft Mythic Unique items.
Realmwalkers: when Ruptures become portals
Completing different Rupture types determines your chance to summon a Realmwalker:
- Ruptures (Normal)
- They cannot summon Realmwalkers.
- Surging Ruptures
- You have a chance to spawn a Realmwalker when Surging Rupture events are completed with Mastery.
- Colossal Ruptures
- Completion guarantees a Realmwalker spawn.
Once you defeat a Realmwalker, it opens a Portal leading to the Deathtoll Chamber.
Deathtoll Chamber: a mini-dungeon built for keys
The Deathtoll Chamber is a one-room mini-dungeon. You can access it in two ways:
- By defeating a Realmwalker
- By entering a Nightmare Dungeon with the Rupture affix, after closing enough tears within Ruptures
It’s also positioned as a primary source for Superior Lair Keys, which you need to open the Seasonal Lair Boss’s Hoard on Torment I+.
New monster family: The Risen (Gravehounds and the Exarch)
A new monster family is joining the fight: The Risen. Gravehounds, part of this family, appear out of Ruptures and/or inside the Deathtoll Chamber. When you kill them, they drop orbs that power up the Exarch, a special Risen enemy that absorbs Orbs drifting toward it.
New Seasonal Lair Boss: Pandemonium Threshold
The Pandemonium Threshold, the Corrupted Reaper’s lair, is a new Seasonal Lair Boss located in Zarbinzet. After defeating it during the seasonal questline, you’ll be able to find it as a repeatable Lair Boss afterward.
The rewards cache is described as having the best direct drop odds for both Mythic Uniques and Mythic Unique upgrade currency—specifically Pandemonium Fragments. To open that rewards cache, you’ll need Superior Lair Keys.
Mythic Uniques 3.0: every Unique can become Mythic
Starting with Season 14, the rule changes: every Unique can be upgraded into a Mythic. Mythic is now treated as a modifiable Item Quality, meaning you can convert any Unique into a Mythic Unique using either the Horadric Cube or the Jeweler.
Mythic Uniques are always Ancestral and their Unique Powers are increased by 30%. Other affixes roll at their maximum values.
To craft Mythic Uniques, you must be at least level 70 in Torment+. You can craft or obtain Mythic Uniques in multiple ways:
- Craft Mythic Uniques using the Cube: Pandemonium Fragments, the Seasonal currency, are required to convert Uniques into Mythic Uniques in the Horadric Cube.
- Defeat the Season Lair Boss: the Corrupted Reaper can drop a Mythic Unique.
- Progress through Season Ranks: you can earn class-specific Mythic Uniques from Mythic Unique Caches.
- Very rare world drops: on both Seasonal and Eternal Realms, there’s a very rare chance to find a Mythic Unique whenever an Ancestral Unique would drop.
Mythic Unique crafting requires using one Unique item rated 850+ that occupies the target slot (it doesn’t need to be the exact item you’re trying to create), plus additional reagents depending on the crafting method:
- Horadric Cube: 5 Pandemonium Fragments
- Jeweler: 18 specific Runes and 3 Resplendent Sparks
Tower and Leaderboards: Beta ends, but rewards push competition
With Season 14, Tower and Leaderboards leave Beta status. Season of Death Awakening also adds separate leaderboards for Solo Self Found players on Normal and for Hardcore players.
Cosmetics are tied to leaderboard performance. You’ll earn new cosmetics when a leaderboard reset finishes, and you’ll also receive rewards at the end of each season.
Rewards are granted for two broad categories: Tower progression and leaderboard rank:
- Progression rewards
- “Played the Tower”
- “Reached Tower Tier 100 or higher”
- Rank rewards
- Top 1,000 on any leaderboard
- Top 500 on any leaderboard
- Top 100 on any leaderboard
- Top 10 on any leaderboard
- Top 1 on any leaderboard
Each cycle, your best rank determines what you earn:
- A Halo Cosmetic
- A Prestige Title
You’ll keep Seasonal leaderboard titles and halos through the season, but they reset when the next season begins.
At the start of the following Season, there’s an additional carryover reward: an Emblem that displays the highest rank you achieved on any leaderboard during the previous season. These emblems are granted on first log-in for the new season.
Quality of life, plus the Diablo x Overwatch crossover
War Plans Party Sync
From Season 14 onward, you can synchronize your War Plans board with your party. The synced board generates a War Plan for the whole group.
To use it, you need to ensure:
- Your party is all inside Temis.
- The prompt New Plan only appears when you’re actually in a party.
If you choose New Plan For Party:
- It costs 2 Marks of El’Druin.
- When selected, the party will see that one member has initiated a vote to re-roll and sync all War Plan boards.
- If everyone accepts, the initiator resets their board and that exact board is pushed to the other players.
Other War Plan changes include:
- War Plan activity XP scaling increased up to Torment VIII+.
- New War Plan quests and activities added for longer Helltides and Nightmare Dungeon Escalation Sigils.
- Base activity XP increased for Infernal Hordes and Nightmare Dungeons that use Escalation Sigils.
- Helltide War Plan progress changed: it now requires collecting 75 Cinders on Normal through Penitent, and 250 Cinders on Torment I+ (instead of opening chests).
General updates
- Obols cap increased to 25,000.
- Gold cap increased to 999,999,999,999.
- Some missing mini-map icons added for Nightmare Dungeon and Pit objects.
- Boss Trophy items for Astaroth and Bartuc were added, and their recipes were combined in the Horadric Cube.
Diablo x Overwatch collaboration: currency, cosmetics, and Kiriko’s companion
At the time the Season begins, players can earn Eye of the Overwatch by defeating Elite and Champion monsters. That currency is used to unlock legendary cosmetics (including the first-ever earnable dye) inside the free Overwatch Reliquary.
The Reliquary rewards include:
- 2 Emblems
- 1 Mount Trophy
- 3 Weapon skin cosmetics
- Overwatch themed Dye
Completing the Reliquary unlocks Kiriko’s Fox Spirit companion. Additional exclusive Overwatch-themed skins will also be sold in Tejal’s Shop at the same time.
