Destiny 2 Turns Off Two Armor Bonuses—Will They Ever Return?

The official Destiny 2 Twitter account posted that two armor set bonuses are being turned off to prevent problems—and, in a grim twist, they might never come back. The game is also heading toward a permanent end-of-service window after its last planned hotfix, which is expected to arrive on Tuesday, July 7. That date coincides with Bungie Day. A separate update was originally due this week on June 30, but layoffs at Bungie reportedly made it difficult to land any final changes in time.

Destiny 2 is now moving into a hibernation-like phase as it approaches end of service, meaning ongoing problems may never get addressed.

Say Goodbye to These Armor Sets in Destiny 2

  • Grasp of Avarice Dungeon 4-Piece Bonus: Overflowing Coffers
  • Duality Dungeon 4-Piece Bonus: Bittersweet

Only about an hour before the latest update, the official account shared that the 4-piece armor bonuses added as part of the Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph update are being disabled in the Crucible, covering all PvP modes. The reason given is that the bonuses are overtuned and are creating issues.

In a typical scenario, Bungie would re-enable these items later after adjusting their numbers and/or changing up perks. However, because layoffs reportedly affected nearly the entire Destiny 2 development team, there won’t be any future support to correct or revisit the settings. With the armor bonuses considered too strong for PvP right now, the only immediate solution is to switch them off.

As a result, starting next week—or whenever the final hotfix actually goes live—these armor set bonuses will stop working in PvP for the remainder of Destiny 2’s lifespan.
