Black Ops 2 Zombies: How Many Pack-a-Punch Upgrades You Can Get

If you’ve already reached the Pack-a-Punch machine in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies and upgraded your weapon once, you may notice an option to run it through again for an additional 2,000 points. But this second (and later) upgrade doesn’t work like the modern-style weapon upgrade paths many players are used to. In Black Ops 2, repacking your weapon simply adds a random attachment, and each additional repack keeps cycling through random attachment options—until you’ve spent all your points for something that might not be worth it, like an underwhelming scope or barrel. Here’s the full breakdown.

Perks are a core part of Black Ops 2 Zombies progression—Double Tap 2.0 included—so understanding how Pack-a-Punch and its upgrades behave matters even more when you’re planning your loadout.

All Pack-a-Punch Upgrades in Black Ops 2 Zombies

Pack-a-Punch upgrades follow a simple rule set:

Some upgrades improve your weapon’s performance.

Other Pack-a-Punch actions do not directly increase weapon stats.

Each additional Pack-a-Punch run can grant a random attachment, such as a Grip, Sight, or Barrel.

Attachments do not stack with each other—when you receive a new one, it replaces the previous attachment.

Repurchasing Pack-a-Punch will not restore ammo. If you try to “fix” ammo by repacking, you’ll end up losing points and time.

Pack-a-Punch in Black Ops 2, Explained (Stats & Rules)

The Standard Pack-a-Punch

The ultimate goal for many high-round players is unlocking Pack-a-Punch for the weapon they rely on most. The very first time you use Pack-a-Punch, it costs 5,000 points—and it’s a major upgrade compared to the unmodified version.

That initial Pack-a-Punch run increases how much ammo you can carry, boosts damage significantly, and reduces recoil to make the weapon easier to control. If there’s a gun you like using in Zombies, it’s usually worth pushing toward Pack-a-Punch as soon as you can—this includes Wonder Weapons such as the Ray Gun.

The Infinite Re-Pack-a-Punch

Once you’ve Pack-a-Punched a standard weapon, that weapon can be sent into the machine again and again—second time, third time, and even infinitely. The cost for each repack is 2,000 points.

However, paying that 2,000-point price does not grant additional damage, extra ammo, or faster fire rate. Instead, repacking an already Pack-a-Punched weapon only adds a random attachment.

That attachment can range from options like a Long Barrel to sights such as a Reflex Dot Sight. These changes usually aren’t huge power spikes unless you have a very specific preference—for example, some players consider getting the right Iron Sight setup on the DSR-50 to be particularly strong in Zombies.

Just as important: repacking for 2,000 points will not reload your weapon and will not give you maximum ammo. If you want your ammo back, you’ll need to rely on Wall-Buys, which cost 4,500 points to replenish your ammo.
