Barcelona’s Diego Kochen earns USMNT call-up after standout Lyngby loan
Diego Kochen’s loan spell at Lyngby has quickly become a significant development for Barcelona and the United States goalkeeper. Seeking first-team football rather than remaining on the fringes in Catalonia, the young American has started every minute of Lyngby’s Danish top-flight campaign and has already earned a senior international call-up under Mauricio Pochettino.

Kochen joined Lyngby on a temporary agreement designed to give him consistent senior exposure in a side committed to playing with possession. The arrangement includes an option for the Danish club to make the deal permanent for €1.5 million, a clause Lyngby are expected to activate if his progress continues.
Although Lyngby have endured a difficult opening to life back in the top division, Kochen has been one of their clearest positives. The club sit 10th after taking seven points from a possible 27, leaving them in the relegation play-off zone, but their goalkeeper has remained heavily involved.
He has stopped 24 of the 40 efforts on target he has faced and was named Man of the Match after an impressive display against Odense. His uninterrupted run in the side and his early shot-stopping record have also helped him secure recognition from the United States senior squad.
Barcelona continue to receive positive assessments on Kochen’s development from Bojan Krkic, who is overseeing the club’s players away on loan. A permanent move would not entirely end Barcelona’s interest: the Spanish club would hold 40% of the goalkeeper’s future rights, giving them a share of any later transfer and a route to bring him back.
Kochen is among several Barcelona-linked players being monitored during the season. Yaakobishvili has not yet played for Almeria, while Marc Casado is expected to miss around three months after undergoing surgery on a collarbone injury.
Elsewhere, Ronald Araujo has established himself as a regular under Andoni Iraola at Liverpool, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s time at Ajax has produced mixed results. For Kochen, however, the immediate picture is far more straightforward: regular minutes, strong individual displays and a realistic path towards a permanent place at Lyngby.
