Arsenal Face January Decision as Premier League Clubs Monitor Madueke

Arsenal could face a decision over Noni Madueke’s future when the January window opens, while Liverpool continue to watch AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit. Elsewhere, New York City FC are nearing a move for United States international Matt Miazga after his Cincinnati contract was waived, and Juventus are ready to discuss a new deal with Nicolás González.

Premier League clubs monitor Madueke and Weinhandl

Madueke has attracted interest from several unnamed Premier League teams after finding regular opportunities limited at Arsenal in the opening part of the season. The 24-year-old England player joined the Gunners from Chelsea last summer and has returned nine goals and four assists across 48 appearances.

Competition on Arsenal’s right side has increased with the emergence of Max Dowman. A winter departure remains dependent on Arsenal being willing to sanction a deal, but Madueke’s situation is being watched by domestic rivals.

Arsenal are also tracking Sturm Graz prospect Luca Weinhandl, with Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion among the other English clubs following the 17-year-old. Weinhandl played 10 times in Austria’s Bundesliga last term and has already made five appearances this season, including a Europa League start. A package worth around £20 million has been suggested as sufficient to secure him.

MLS move approaches for Miazga

New York City FC are close to signing Matt Miazga on a free transfer following FC Cincinnati’s decision to waive the defender’s contract. The 31-year-old would bring considerable MLS experience to a side chasing a place in this season’s playoffs.

Miazga made 108 appearances for Cincinnati and was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2023. The former Chelsea centre-back has also collected 28 caps for the United States national team.

Juventus plan González discussions

Juventus intend to hold extension talks with Nicolás González during the next international break. His existing agreement runs through 2029, but the club could offer the 28-year-old winger an additional one or two years.

González spent last season on loan at Atlético Madrid. Atlético, Inter Milan and an unnamed Saudi Pro League club all showed interest in him, but he opted to remain in Turin. Since returning, he has produced two goals and one assist from four outings.

• Juventus are also monitoring Alessandro Romano, the 20-year-old Roma player currently on loan at Cagliari. Inter and Napoli are interested as well.
• Tottenham are among the clubs pursuing Athletico Paranaense defender Arthur Dias. The 19-year-old is valued by his club at €30 million and has attracted scouts from England, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
• Newcastle United could entertain permanent bids for Nick Woltemade in the summer once his Juventus loan concludes.

Defenders and forwards draw wider interest

Napoli have rejected approaches for Rafa Marin from Premier League and Saudi Pro League clubs. The 24-year-old defender, formerly of Real Madrid, has started every Napoli match since returning from his Villarreal loan spell.

Espanyol striker Roberto Fernández has a €25 million clause for a permanent transfer in his contract, a figure that would increase if he makes an international appearance. Barcelona and Premier League sides have been linked with the 24-year-old, who earned his first Spain call-up after scoring six times in seven games this season.

Manchester United’s hierarchy currently remain supportive of Michael Carrick despite speculation surrounding his role after a difficult beginning to the campaign.
