Amazon Lets You Buy New Mega Pokémon Tins at UVP Despite Price Hikes
New Pokémon Trading Card Game demand is colliding with inflated pricing again: three newly released “Mega Pokémon” Tin boxes arrived in late August, and while some sellers are charging more than double the recommended retail price, Amazon is offering a way to buy the tins at the UVP via an invitation system.
Mega tins hit the market—then prices jump hard
The three “Mega Pokémon” Tin releases landed on 28 August. Within days, listings for individual tins began appearing at major markups. The regularly stated price is 24,99 euros, but some offers were reported around 40 euros, and certain third-party marketplace sellers on Amazon asked close to 60 euros—an increase of over 100 percent in the worst cases.
Offers at the UVP were described as uncommon, but Amazon’s store setup provides an exception: it uses an invitation-based ordering flow that lets eligible customers request access to buy the tin for 24,99 euros.
- Release date for the Mega Pokémon Tins: 28 August
- Recommended retail price (UVP): 24,99 euros
- Reported higher third-party pricing: ~40 euros (some listings), up to nearly 60 euros (some Amazon marketplace offers)
How Amazon’s invitation system works for the UVP
Rather than listing the tins openly at the recommended price, Amazon uses an invite request process. Shoppers can request an invitation; once approved, they can order the selected tin at 24,99 euros.
The buying page may initially show a more expensive marketplace offer because Amazon highlights the option that ships faster, not the cheapest price. Customers are directed to use the “Other Sellers on Amazon” area to find Amazon’s own listing at 24,99 euros and the invitation request option. After an invitation request is accepted, the customer receives the ability to place the order at the UVP.
What’s inside the three Mega Pokémon Tin variants
All three tin versions share the same general contents: each one includes a holographic promo card tied to the Mega Pokémon name on the box, plus four randomly selected booster packs.
The three variants are:
- Mega-Dragoran-ex
- Mega-Darkrai-ex
- Mega-Zeraora-ex
Each booster pack contains ten cards, including a basic energy card and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. The tins can also be used to store collected cards. Pricing via Amazon’s UVP request flow is reported as the same for all three varieties—24,99 euros.
Why this matters for Pokémon TCG fans—and what to watch next
Demand pressure around Pokémon TCG releases has already caused preorder cutoffs and limited allocations from some retailers, with resellers and inflated prices becoming a familiar problem. The timing is especially notable because fans are also waiting for Pokémon Trading Card Game’s 30-year anniversary expansion, which is set to launch on 16 September.
That anniversary set includes a Pikachu-focused lineup, with a guarantee that each booster contains one of 30 different Pikachu cards. Given how the Mega tins are being handled, players are now watching to see whether Amazon applies the same invitation-based UVP model to the upcoming 30-year release—particularly for fans who don’t have a well-stocked local card shop.
