Humankind 2 Announced by Amplitude for PC in 2027 on Steam

Amplitude Studios has unveiled Humankind 2 at Gamescom Cologne, confirming a PC release planned for 2027 on Steam and a new direction for its turn-based historical strategy sequel.

What Humankind 2 is and when it arrives

Humankind 2 follows up on the 2021 strategy title Humankind, continuing the franchise’s core pitch: each historical age reshapes both your civilization and the world around it. The sequel is built as a turn-based historical strategy experience where players are tasked with finding cities, advancing technologies, forming alliances, commanding armies, and guiding their people from early settlement through to the modern era.

  • Platform: PC
  • Release target: 2027
  • Store: Steam

New systems, reworked progression, and deeper cultural choices

Amplitude says Humankind 2 takes the foundation of the original and improves it through additional ways to rewrite history. The studio highlights new progression systems, innovative features, more detailed visuals, a modernized user interface, and gameplay improvements intended to deliver what it calls the best Humankind experience to date.

A key change centers on an “evolution culturelle” approach designed to provide a more complete cultural journey. With each new era, players can choose a culture that broadens and deepens their civilization’s identity, unlocking culture-specific traits via cultural progression trees. Amplitude also claims that combining these influences results in a civilization that feels unique, with what it describes as unprecedented customization, plus continuity across ages.

Each era’s evolution is framed as a chance to redefine the future of an empire—either by following a historical path or diverging to create a story that belongs only to the player. The game additionally introduces new narratives from around the world, spanning peoples including Saqqaq, Etruscans, Scythians, and more.

Dynamic climates, community involvement, and what to watch next

Humankind 2 also introduces a changing climate that reshapes the strategic map across eras. Players will need to adapt cities and economies to shifting biomes, safeguard vital resources, and weigh short-term growth against longer-term consequences for future generations.

Amplitude further confirmed ongoing development support alongside fans through its community platform, Amplifiers. The studio says players can join the platform now to share in the development direction, earn unique rewards, and receive regular updates from the development team.

Humankind 2 is currently in development for PC, aiming for a 2027 release on Steam.
