Gothic Remake Gets Patch 1.0.5 at Gamescom Fixing Crashes and Quests

Alkimia Interactive has released a new update for Gothic Remake, pushing the game to version 1.0.5. The patch was made available during Gamescom and focuses on crash fixes plus a broad set of corrections across technical issues and quest-related problems.

Quick facts

  • Update: Gothic Remake patch version 1.0.5
  • Focus: fixes for crashes, quest bugs, and technical malfunctions
  • Crash triggers addressed: fire lizard transformation after eating two forest berries, selling 11,000 coins to a merchant, certain theft sequences in the dungeon, and teleporting with summoned skeletons from the Free Mine to Xardas’ tower
  • Notable changes: missing sound effects during the execution of demon Cor Kalom, plus multiple fixes to combat, interactions, UI behavior, and saved-game behavior

During the Gamescom bustle, the studio made the 1.0.5 patch available, with the in-game version expected to show as “CL 172709” in players’ settings. The update targets a range of bugs that could appear at specific moments, including crashes and problems that interfered with quest flow or player control.

The patch also takes aim at a set of “interesting timing” failures. In one reported scenario, players could crash after eating two forest berries and transforming into a fire waran. Another crash was tied to 11,000 coins being sold to a merchant, which could lead to a hard stop for the game.

Crashes: what 1.0.5 prevents

The changelog lists several additional crash conditions. Players could trigger instability after stealing from Dexter or the guards in the dungeon, and similarly after stealing from Santino once the ownership document had been sold to him. Another crash case involves teleporting from the Free Mine to Xardas’ tower while using summoned skeletons.

Beyond those repeatable crash triggers, the update includes a much wider technical sweep. Among the fixes: issues affecting skeleton mages that couldn’t summon skeletons, couldn’t teleport, and couldn’t attack; a demon (Cor Kalom) being able to fall to the ground upon appearing; and a problem where the unnamed hero could fall out of the ring during the execution of Cor Kalom near the chamber’s edge.

1.0.5 also addresses cases where characters stopped responding after loading an autosave—specifically the “mad friends” and “mad Xardas” after loading the last automated save, as well as the “mad Mud” after loading an autosave created in the mine room.

Technical fixes and gameplay stability improvements

Some of the patch’s corrections are aimed at movement and interaction oddities. It resolves a problem where the unnamed hero could fall behind the bloodwaterfalls in the area tied to Varrag Unhilqt, and another where the hero could get stuck between the ork skull’s tusks and the bloodwaterfalls while in the ring area.

Inventory and combat feedback are also covered. The update fixes an oxygen-loss issue after sitting on a Scavenger during a dive, and it corrects missing XP notification behavior after loading a save created while riding the Scavenger. There are also corrections for control loss when re-mounting the Scavenger after setting themselves in the air during a fall into water.

On the UI side, the patch fixes a duplication bug that could occur when dropping a stack of items and closing the item quantity window. It also addresses sound-related presentation: the absence of sound effects during the execution of demon Cor Kalom is fixed.

Several interaction and encounter-specific issues are included as well. These include cases where the unnamed hero could be pushed away when starting a conversation near an obstacle, getting stuck when interacting with the Free Mine whetstone, and triggering an incorrect dialogue when interacting with the door to the chamber of the fire mages.

Boss behavior is covered too. The update fixes bosses that didn’t function properly when changing phases if they had additional phases. It also prevents Cor Kalom from failing to re-enter the chamber area after being thrown down from the ring edge.

Quest corrections in patch 1.0.5

Alongside the stability work, 1.0.5 includes fixes aimed at quest progression and scripting. One bug prevented the quest “Das Amulett” from properly behaving after the player refused to pay for Bloodwyn’s protection; that issue is corrected.

Other quest fixes include enabling collection of the heart of the stone golem as a trophy, resolving a dialog problem with Stone during the quest “Zwischen Hammer und Amboss” that blocked progress, and correcting the wrong mana amount required to cast the scrolls “Troll schrumpfen” and “Monster schrumpfen”.

There’s also a fix for combat triggers after fair fights: the templars of the swamp camp should no longer attack the unnamed hero after Gor Na Dun is defeated in a fair battle.

With these changes—crash prevention, quest flow repairs, and adjustments to encounters, dialogs, and saved-game behavior—update 1.0.5 is positioned as a meaningful stability pass for Gothic Remake.
