Kingdom Hearts IV Details and New Anime Project Announced at Disney D23

Disney’s D23 is once again serving as a home base for Kingdom Hearts updates, with the Disney Entertainment Showcase revealing fresh details about the next mainline entry, plus a new animated project tied to the franchise. Fans got a glimpse of what’s coming next—starting with Kingdom Hearts IV—and also heard that an anime-style adaptation is moving toward release on Disney’s streaming and TV platforms.

During the panel, Kingdom Hearts IV was presented with a video showcasing a new world built around the film Coco. Alongside the reveal, the game’s release window was described only as the “last period of 2027,” without narrowing it to a specific month or season.

When Kingdom Hearts IV launches, it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The PC release is planned across Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

For players looking for something to play before then, Square Enix also has a near-term release on the calendar. On October 8, KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is set to launch, bundling three major collections: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC).

The showcase didn’t stop at games. It also included an announcement for an animated adaptation, currently described with a provisional title of Kingdom Hearts, based on the franchise itself. The project is planned for distribution on Disney+ and The Disney Channel, with production involving Tetsuya Nomura—co-creator and director of the franchise—alongside Square Enix.

More information on both the animated series and Kingdom Hearts IV is expected later, but the D23 announcements already give players clear targets: a Coco-themed world for the next numbered chapter, a late-2027 timeframe, and a collection release arriving October 8 ahead of whatever comes next.
