S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope Launches With Update 2.0 on PC and Consoles
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, the latest major expansion for GSC Game World’s post-apocalyptic shooter, has launched today across PC and consoles. Alongside the new DLC, the studio is also releasing update 2.0 at the same time, setting up what amounts to a fresh start for players who’ve been waiting for more content, new areas, and additional combat options.
Launch details, pricing, and where to play
The expansion is available on PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as on Xbox Series S and Series X and PlayStation 5. On the pricing front, PC and Xbox Series S/X editions are listed at 114.99 zł, while the PS5 version costs 134 zł. The PC release is tied to a specific unlock time—15:00 Polish time—with consoles expected to receive the DLC at the same moment.
Cost of Hope is an add-on rather than a standalone product, meaning players need the base version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to access it. The DLC also includes a cinema-style localization option, bringing Polish subtitles to the new content.
It’s a paid expansion, though the exact price is not yet confirmed. Players who purchased the Ultimate Edition will receive it without additional cost.
Two new zones and an extended story
Cost of Hope expands S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 with two additional locations: a nuclear power plant area in Chernobyl, and the Iron Forest. Beyond the new environments, the DLC introduces new weapon types and comes with its own story segment. Completing the narrative is expected to take even dozens of hours, positioning the add-on as substantial rather than a brief side chapter.
Initial reviews are strong
Early coverage from reviewers has been overwhelmingly positive. On Metacritic, the PC version of Cost of Hope reportedly sits at an average score of 85%. Console versions haven’t yet accumulated enough reviews for a comparable aggregated average.
Individual review scores highlighted in coverage include PlayDay.One at 95/10, The Game Machine at 9.1/10, Game8 at 90/100, GameStar at 86/100, and Gaming Bolt at 8/10. Other cited results include GameReactor at 8/10 and The Wand Report at 8/10.
Across the feedback, reviewers praise the expansion’s scale, its story presentation, and the appeal of the new locations. The most common criticism is that the DLC doesn’t significantly overhaul core gameplay systems, and that it adds only a limited number of new enemy types.
Update 2.0 arrives today as well, released alongside Cost of Hope. More details about that patch were previously outlined in earlier coverage, but the key point for players is timing: this launch pairs a new campaign add-on with a broader update to the game’s overall foundation.
