Battlefield 6 Season 4 Adds Top Gun Planes and Wake Island on Aug 18, 2026
Electronic Arts has detailed what’s coming next for Battlefield 6 Season 4: a new “Top Gun” themed update built around aerial combat, two new aircraft, and the return of the iconic Pacific battleground of Wake Island—set to launch on August 18, 2026.
Season 4 brings a Top Gun collaboration to Battlefield 6
As previously announced in July, the Season 4 update for Battlefield 6 introduces a Hollywood-themed map tied to the Top Gun franchise. The update is positioned as the game’s biggest seasonal push so far, with its design focus on dogfights, air-to-surface pressure, and vertical engagements.
Alongside the map, the update also sets up a specific “fly-first” sandbox: the return of Wake Island, remodeled to better support aerial maneuvers, low-altitude passes over the water, and head-on or vertical duels above the lagoon.
Wake Island returns—rebuilt for aircraft dogfights
Wake Island has been a recurring landmark in the Battlefield series since Battlefield 1942, and this version is described as a complete rework intended to reward aggressive air play. The redesign aims to create more opportunities for close-quarters aircraft fights—especially scenarios where pilots can contest space above the lagoon and attack targets from angles that take advantage of the island’s new layout.
For players, the key shift is that Wake isn’t just back as a nostalgia play. It’s been tuned for combat loops built around aircraft movement and air superiority, which should change how teams plan engagements and how often ground fights are shaped by who controls the sky.
New aircraft and two dedicated aerial modes
To make that Wake Island return playable in a “top-down” way, the update adds two new planes: the F-74A Seacat and the F/A-81F Super Spectre. Both are intended to give pilots more options for different flight styles while keeping the focus on aerial combat as the primary draw.
EA is also adding two new game formats designed around air combat. The first is called “Offensive Carrier,” described as a resurgence of earlier large-scale carrier-style ideas from the series—where squads coordinate aerial strikes and manage coastal batteries on the ground to break through defenses of an enemy capital ship before pushing into the final assault area.
The second mode, “Survival: Aerial Raid,” is framed as a stamina-focused challenge: pilots must hold out against successive waves of opposing squadrons, emphasizing endurance and repeat decision-making under pressure.
- New aircraft: F-74A Seacat and F/A-81F Super Spectre
- New mode: Offensive Carrier, built around coordinated strikes and ship defense breaching
- New mode: Survival: Aerial Raid, built around repelling repeated waves
- Core battleground: Wake Island returns with a full rework supporting aerial maneuvers and vertical duels
Top Gun character cosmetics and the update date
The collaboration with Paramount brings official pilot faces from Top Gun: Maverick into the cosmetics pipeline. Players will be able to unlock or purchase appearances for Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Weapons Systems Officer Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman), and Rear Admiral Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell).
The Top Gun x Battlefield 6 update is scheduled to release on August 18, 2026.
