Solo Leveling Necromancers Ranked: Top 7 Dark-Magic Masters
Necromancers are an exceptionally scarce sight in Solo Leveling, yet the few who do exist wield dark magic that puts them well beyond standard mage-style hunters who rely on elemental spells. In this world, necromancy is treated as a concealed and forbidden class for most hunters—but higher-tier beings, including Sung Jinwoo, have already pushed these powers to their absolute peak.
These cold, calculating anime-style leads can stand toe-to-toe with Jinwoo himself, largely because their methods are ruthless and their personalities are as unyielding as their magic.
Jinwoo may be the most recognizable necromancer in Solo Leveling, but he isn’t the only one who can command the dead. Even if he tends to eclipse everyone else, multiple dangerous necromancers still exist in the setting—each capable of raising their own chilling undead forces.
7 Arch Lich’s Necromancy Makes It a High-Level Dungeon Boss
The Arch Lich has not yet appeared in the anime adaptation of Solo Leveling. It’s one of the rarest magical beasts in the entire series, and it carries overwhelming necromantic might along with full control over undead monsters—ranging from twin-headed ogres to vampires and death knights.
In the story, the Arch Lich operates as the final boss of the Busan Gate, a storyline expected to be adapted in the long-awaited Solo Leveling: Beyond the System movie. Acting through its undead legions, the Arch Lich wiped out one of China’s major guilds, the Gold Dragon Guild. For all its terrifying strength, it still treats Sung Jinwoo as its personal god and believes it has a place among the Shadow Monarch’s forces.

6 Metus Is the Demon Castle’s Deadliest Necromancer
Metus is a high-ranking dungeon boss positioned on the 75th floor of the Demon Castle in Solo Leveling. Officially categorized as an S-rank necromancer, Metus can use Accursed Voice, a high-level ability that can instantly bring thousands of undead soldiers into the fight on his behalf.
While Metus’ specialty is clearly necromancy, his magical skill set isn’t limited to one school. He can also apply other kinds of magic, and he comes with a sizable mana reservoir—meaning sustaining an undead army is never a struggle. Even if his undead forces don’t match the raw threat of Sung Jinwoo’s shadow army, they still rank among the strongest undead legions introduced in Solo Leveling.
5 Arsha’s Necromancy and Mind Manipulation Are Terrifying
Arsha is a name many Solo Leveling viewers may not recognize, but fans following Solo Leveling: Ragnarok know her as Querehsha’s successor. In other words, Arsha is the current Queen of Insects and holds the Void Monarch title.
Like her former master, Arsha can use necromancy to command swarming insect forces as well as an undead army without hesitation. Beyond that, the Void Monarch also brings additional power sets—such as shapeshifting, rapid regeneration, gate creation, and mana manipulation. She stands out as one of the series’ most effective mind-influencers, able to affect targets through words alone.
4 Querehsha Combines Necromancy with Parasites and Poisons
Among the fearsome monarchs in Solo Leveling, Querehsha is one of the few who can execute necromantic arts at their highest level. As the Insect Queen, she deploys thousands of parasites to control and steer an undead army during combat. Anyone killed by her forces is reanimated via one of her parasites, allowing her ranks to keep growing—and pushing her threat level even higher.
Meanwhile, as the Monarch of the Plagues, Queresha can also inflict multiple forms of venom and toxin on her opponents. While her poisons may fail to work against Sung Jinwoo, they can still be punishing for enemies who lack immunity to status-debuff effects.
3 Ashborn Was the First True Necromancer
Before transferring his full power to Sung Jinwoo, Ashborn was the most overpowered necromancer in Solo Leveling. He was feared not only by rulers, but also by monarchs, thanks to his ability to raise undead armies with regenerative strength that verged on the limitless. With Ashborn’s massive mana supply, every shadow defeated in battle could rise again and return to the fight.
Only after Ashborn switched sides and became a monarch was he able to practice necromantic arts without restriction. Even so, he managed to keep the balance of power between monarchs and rulers for a long time—until the other monarchs ultimately betrayed him.
2 Sung Suho Is Solo Leveling’s Most Versatile Necromancer
As Sung Jinwoo’s only son, Sung Suho becoming a strong necromancer is only natural. Mirroring Jinwoo, Suho can use Shadow Extraction to raise undead forces. However, Suho applies his shadows in a different, far more creative way: he turns them into weapons and armor that he can equip directly on his body.
By this stage in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Sung Suho has developed to the point where only Sung Jinwoo can beat him in a fair duel. Even surpassing opponents as formidable as Beru—or even Bellion—has become something Suho can realistically accomplish, showing just how far the son of the Shadow Monarch has progressed.
1 Sung Jinwoo’s Necromancy Has No Equal
Sung Jinwoo is currently the strongest necromancer in the world of Solo Leveling. He’s also the only hunter on Earth who unlocked the forbidden necromancer class through the System—before eventually evolving into the Shadow Monarch class.
As the series’ most powerful necromancer, Sung Jinwoo is unmatched when it comes to necromantic techniques. From building an army of shadows using Shadow Extraction to his teleportation capabilities enabled by the Shadow Exchange skill, he has mastered every piece of necromancy tied to the Shadow Monarch’s power.
