Palworld Coal Locations: Find and Mine This Key Resource Fast

As you push deeper into the industrial stretch of Palworld, you’ll eventually need to turn raw extraction into dependable tech production—everything from advanced firearms to other high-value gear. One of the toughest ingredients to secure is Coal. Visually, it stands out from most rock: it’s always a dark slate gray and tends to have sharper edges than the surrounding stone.

Checklists

As you proceed into your version of the industrial age in Palworld, you’ll need to keep refining the materials required to build important technology like multiple firearms. That process depends on a lot of resources, and one of the rarest is Coal. Unlike many other rock deposits, Coal consistently appears as a dark slate gray and shows sharper edges.

Where to Find Coal

If the environment around you is dry and hot, your odds of running into Coal go up. Deserts are the most reliable hunting ground, though you can also spot deposits in Dungeons from time to time—so it’s worth checking them whenever you’re clearing one out. Also, bring the strongest pickaxe you can craft before you start mining.

Blazamut and Menasting are both able to drop Coal. Blazamut can be found in the Scorching Mineshaft, located southwest of the checkpoint at the Foot of the Volcano, roughly at coordinates -436, -529. Menasting appears in a mineshaft as well—the Dessicated Mineshaft—in the southeastern corner of the desert, in the northeastern part of the map.

If you want the best place to mine for Coal, head to the desert area just west of the center of the map. Two clusters tend to stand out at about (-156, -93) and (-98, -119).

The (-98, -119) spot is relatively isolated, which makes it a solid choice if you want to set up your own compact mining operation. Place a few level 2 miners, add the beds and recovery setup you’ll need, and then add Berry Plantations for steady food. Don’t forget to construct a feed box and a hot spring to support your crew.

You’ll also want a few wooden chests positioned near the Palbox. The general plan is simple: assign dedicated workers to mining, keep a group focused on food production, and assign others to transportation so mined materials get moved and stored efficiently. You can further streamline output by building a furnace and putting a Fire Pal in charge of smelting. How to Farm Coal at Your Base

With the recent Sakurajima update, you can now farm Coal directly at your base in Palworld. However, this is something you unlock later in the progression, so you’ll need to reach level 53 first. After that, you must unlock the Coal Mine inside the Ancient Technology tree by spending five Ancient Technology Points. Once the technology is obtained, it requires the following costs:

  • 70 Stone
  • 100 Coal
  • 30 Paldium Fragments
