Mass Effect 2 Loyalty Missions Guide: Complete Them to Save Your Squad

This part of the Mass Effect 2 wiki guide focuses on how to complete Loyalty Missions. These quests are among the most important objectives in the game because they directly affect who survives the Suicide Mission—not only the squadmate the quest is tied to, but also the teammates they interact with during key moments. Use the sections below to see which Loyalty Missions are available, how to obtain each one, and what you need to do to finish them successfully.

  • Loyalty Missions Explained

Below you’ll find a full list of every Loyalty Mission in Mass Effect 2. If you consistently check in with your squadmates after recruiting them, you’ll obtain the Loyalty quests in a set sequence. The DLC Loyalty Missions follow different rules, which are covered later.

The table is ordered by the order you can unlock these Loyalty Missions, not by alphabetical name.

DLC Loyalty Missions

Post-Horizon Loyalty Missions

In Mass Effect 2, every squadmate has a Loyalty Mission. Completing it requires you to do a specific task for them so they can stabilize mentally and stay focused on the mission ahead. In practice, these quests usually center on themes like family and loved ones, revenge, or helping them find their place in the wider universe.

For the main ten squadmates, you can’t start their Loyalty Mission until after you complete the “Horizon” mission partway through the story. Even then, you also need to have spoken with those squadmates a few times between missions so you can learn more about them. The main exception is the two DLC recruits, Kasumi and Zaeed—once you bring them into your crew, their Loyalty Missions can be unlocked right away.

Loyalty Missions matter a lot because they connect to the Suicide Mission ending at the end of the game. If a squadmate isn’t Loyal, they face a significantly higher chance of dying, or causing someone else to die, during certain segments of the finale. Finishing their Loyalty quest reduces that danger. It also grants an extra Power you can use—either directly as part of their kit, or by assigning it to Shepard through the Research Terminal in the Tech Lab.

Don’t treat Loyalty as a one-and-done checklist either. Loyalty Missions also carry consequences into Mass Effect 3. Even if a squadmate survives the Suicide Mission, failing to complete their Loyalty Mission increases the odds that they’ll die later during a mission in the third game where they appear. So it’s worth completing them instead of skipping.
