Cyberpunk 2077 Sees a Comeback as Fans Demand More DLC From CD Projekt

Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying a fresh wave of attention, driven by strong Steam numbers tied to a recent sale, renewed excitement around the Netflix anime sequel Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, and the game’s renewed visibility through a collaboration with Wuthering Waves. With the original now firmly established, CD Projekt has already told players not to expect additional downloadable content—yet the community is still pushing back, arguing that more DLC would be exactly the kind of support that helped The Witcher 3 stay relevant for years.

Earlier this month, CD Projekt shared a major sales milestone: Cyberpunk 2077 has moved 40 million copies since its launch in December 2020, which is an increase of 5 million compared to the figure reported in November 2025. The game’s expansion history so far includes just one major add-on—Phantom Liberty, released in 2023 and headlined by Idris Elba.

Back in May, CD Projekt reiterated that it had “no plans” for any further DLC or expansions for Cyberpunk 2077. That stance disappointed players who still want more new missions, systems, and story beats despite the game’s age. The company’s messaging also suggests that any meaningful return to this world will likely wait for Cyberpunk 2, with the caveat that the timeline could be long. That long wait appears to be part of the reason fans are restless: Cyberpunk 2 is reportedly further behind The Witcher 4, and co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has indicated the sequel may not arrive until at least 2030.

Even with no new DLC promised, player interest keeps climbing in the short term. On July 5, Cyberpunk 2077 hit a Steam peak concurrency above 100,000 players—its highest point since 2023. In response to the renewed momentum, Paweł Sasko, associate game director on Cyberpunk 2, posted: “Have fun my dears, hope it’s going to keep you hooked, entertained, and inspired.”

That kind of comeback in active players has fans asking CD Projekt to reconsider its DLC position. One popular Reddit thread titled “Yeah, we are gonna need that second DLC CDPR!”—which had around 12,000 upvotes at the time—captures the mood. The comments range from practical to joking, including one quip that the publisher “need[s] some money,” so players should get a DLC “so we could give you more money.”

Others are more openly emotional about what they want to see. One player wrote, “I would die if this game got another DLC (after I play it of course).” They went on to describe Cyberpunk 2077 as one of their favorite games while also calling it one of the most painful examples of cut content in a modern release. Their argument is that the game’s missing pieces have become part of the appeal—spending time exploring well beyond the map and hunting down what the game “was supposed to be.” They even admitted they don’t know what the next DLC would focus on, but still want it more than anything else right now.

There are also comparisons to The Witcher 3. One commenter called it “a slap in the face” that The Witcher 3 is getting another DLC while the newer Cyberpunk entry does not. In a longer reply, they clarified they don’t dislike The Witcher, but questioned why an 11-year-old game with “heaps of DLC” continues to receive fresh content while the newer project doesn’t. Their suggestion: revisit cut material and release it through DLC.

Even players who are deep into the current experience are still thinking ahead. One fan said they were wrapping up their first playthrough and had already spent about 220 hours to complete it to 100%. While they admitted a new DLC would “wreck my plans” to move on to their backlog, they still said they would “f***ing take it in a second.”

Every CD Projekt Red Game In Development

Some players believe CD Projekt could eventually change course, pointing out that The Witcher 3 also received additional DLC only after long stretches in which fans were unsure what would come next. The current official position remains that no further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is being developed. Still, the counterpoint is simple: the absence of announcements for years doesn’t necessarily mean the DLC won’t arrive later—so speculation continues to grow.

If you’re jumping back into Cyberpunk 2077—either for the first time in Night City or after a long break—there are guides aimed at helping you plan key choices. For major options when completing main jobs, players can use a complete walkthrough focused on the game’s main quests. Romance is another commonly revisited topic, and the community has also leaned on guides that explain romance options and what you need to do to successfully pursue them. There are also resources dedicated to Phantom Liberty, plus a console commands and cheats list for players who want to experiment with the game’s systems.
