New Dark Souls Entry Hits September 22—Fresh Content Confirmed
Dark Souls fans have been waiting a long time for something fresh, but help is on the way. A brand-new entry tied to the wider Dark Souls universe has now been confirmed for September 22, giving players just about two months to get ready for the next wave of content.
Dark Souls is one of FromSoftware’s best-known franchises, and it played a major role in the studio’s rise during the early-to-mid 2010s. It also helped shape the Soulslike style—a subgenre that traces back to Demon’s Souls in 2009. Even with its huge fanbase, the series hasn’t seen much new material recently: Dark Souls 3 released in 2016, and a remastered version of the original game followed in 2018. However you look at the timeline, the result is the same—players haven’t had many chances to jump into truly new Dark Souls content.
On the surface, the latest release being tied to Steam and described as a roguelite might sound like it’s going to feel like Dark Souls. In practice, though, it’s reportedly closer to a bullet-hell take on the vibe of Ghosts ’n Goblins.
Dark Souls: Redemption Vol. 3 Lands September 22
Dark Souls: Redemption Vol. 3 has been officially announced by Yen Press as the next installment in the manga series written by Julien Blondel. The new volume is scheduled to release on September 22, 2026, and will cost $15.00. At 208 pages, it offers a solid amount of reading material for the price, and it also lands as the shortest Dark Souls manga release so far—though only by a small margin compared with earlier volumes.
The publisher also provided the following synopsis for Dark Souls: Redemption Vol 3:
“The tenuous alliance between a guardian, a keeper, and a hunter calms in ruin’s wake. Yet, like a candle against a gale, hope flickers with each passing moment. In these cursed lands, hope is the sliver of dawn which beats back the night. Be it for duty, family, or survival— our heros will march into the winds of a world lost to ash and despair. But the waning light of their hope cannot illuminate every dark corner of the world. And somewhere in the black stirs a reckoning which comes to snuff it out…”
The Dark Souls: Redemption manga kicked off in 2024, and community reaction was a bit mixed at the time. A second entry arrived in August 2025, which means readers will be waiting a little over a year for this third volume. It’s still unclear whether a fourth volume is planned beyond this point. Visually and tonally, Dark Souls: Redemption is positioned differently than the Elden Ring manga from Yen Press, which leans more toward comedy. Here, the series instead goes for a horror-fantasy angle, aligning more closely with the feel of the games themselves—so whether that’s a win or a mismatch will likely come down to individual taste.
While Dark Souls players may be hungry for new video game releases, the franchise has continued expanding into other formats over the years. Around the launch window for Dark Souls 3, it received a comic book adaptation credited to George Mann and Alan Quah. Separately, Steamforged Games released a board game in 2017. With that in mind, it’s encouraging for fans to see that interest in Dark Souls stories hasn’t faded—even if the newest updates are coming through manga and tabletop instead of a new FromSoftware title.
Even though Dark Souls: Redemption continuing to grow is a positive development, it’s not the same as getting a brand-new game. FromSoftware does have plenty in development, but there’s currently no clear sign that a new Dark Souls video game is on the way—especially considering the studio’s current focus on Elden Ring.
