Infamous 2 Platinum Trophy May Become Impossible After Sony Changes Plans
PlayStation has stumbled through a number of missteps over the years, and one of the biggest is its aging approach to backwards compatibility. Because of how the PlayStation 3 was built, a large library of PS3-era games is still effectively locked to that platform. In many cases, Sony either never ported specific titles to PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, or decided the financial cost wasn’t worth it.
Two clear examples are inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2. Both have remained on the PS3 since launch, and now—nearly 15 years later—inFAMOUS 2 is starting to feel the downsides of being stuck on older hardware.
inFAMOUS 2 Platinum Trophy Is Set to Become Unobtainable
After a recent announcement from Sony, it’s clear that trophy hunters will have a shrinking window to finish inFAMOUS 2. The company is planning to end the game’s online services, with the main target being the user-generated content (UGC) that supports the multiplayer side of the experience.
In practice, that means players used the game’s built-in tools to design their own missions, then publish them so others could play through those community creations.
After August 31 later this year, that UGC feature will be fully shut down. While this outcome isn’t entirely surprising given the PS3 Store is also being discontinued, it still creates a serious problem for players chasing the game’s Platinum Trophy.
Don’t claim you have any of these. We won’t believe you.
Why the Platinum Will Break: The UGC Trophy Requirement
To earn the Platinum in inFAMOUS 2, you must first collect a bronze trophy called UGC Veteran. That trophy is tied to completing 25 separate UGC missions.
Once the UGC content is removed, those missions won’t be available anymore. With the required missions inaccessible, the Platinum becomes impossible to unlock.
What You Should Do If You Want the Platinum
There is a possibility Sony could change things after the fact—for example, by removing the trophy requirements retroactively, or by having the trophy trigger immediately when players boot the game. However, given that inFAMOUS 2 is more than 15 years old and there’s been little indication that Sony plans to revisit the IP soon, that kind of intervention seems unlikely.
So if you’ve been planning to claim inFAMOUS 2’s Platinum, you likely need to do it within the next two months. After that, the game’s trophy path may effectively be closed.
