Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Draws 85K Players in Minutes After Launch

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out now, and it’s already drawing serious attention from players. The remake released this morning, and almost as soon as people could launch it on Steam, more than 85,000 users jumped in to spend time again as Edward Kenway.

85,000+ Players Jumped In Immediately After Launch

That first-wave number matters for a few reasons. For starters, the original Black Flag never reached anything close to these levels on Steam. When the earlier game launched, it peaked at around 16,000 concurrent players, meaning Resynced is already showing a concurrency count roughly five times higher than the original’s best day.

Black Flag is also the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed entry since Black Flag.

Resynced’s initial concurrent user (CCU) count is exceptionally strong for a single-player title on Steam, not just within the Assassin’s Creed lineup. Right away, it’s placed itself among the five single-player games released in 2026 with the highest peak concurrency figures. Only Resident Evil Requiem, Mewgenics, Subnautica 2, and the pirate competitor Windrose are ahead.

It also seems unlikely the game will stop at 85,000. Steam releases commonly see player counts rise after launch as the first weekend approaches and more people are free to play. Resynced launched on a Thursday morning in the United States, which likely concentrates the majority of its early audience there—yet at 10 am, it still managed to attract 85,000 players ready to jump in.

The Concurrency Numbers Keep Climbing

Even as the numbers are being checked, Resynced is continuing to outpace its own early results. SteamDB currently shows nearly 98,000 players online on Steam, and that figure is expected to keep increasing. It should pass 100,000 players comfortably before the end of the day, and it could even reach that threshold by the time this article is published. From there, Friday is likely to bring another bump, and the weekend may push the count even higher again.

A Progress-Wiping Bug Could Affect Early Runs

If you’re planning to jump into the Black Flag remake immediately, be aware of a bug that was flagged during the review window and can wipe progress. The issue appears to be tied to Templar Hunts, side quests you must complete to obtain Templar Keys.

The reported scenario is that you continue the main story while leaving those Templar Hunts unfinished. Because the main quest then moves into an area that overlaps with the space where the unfinished side quests take place, the game can get stuck (a softlock). When that happens, you may need to reload a previous save—potentially one from several hours earlier.
