Mistbound Confirmed: A New Guild Wars Collectible Card Game Revealed
After months of trademark sightings and cryptic teases, the Mistbound name has finally surfaced in a way Guild Wars fans will recognize: it’s a collectible card game built on the Guild Wars universe.
Mistbound officially revealed as a Guild Wars card game
The Mistbound trademark that was first spotted in late April has now been confirmed. The project isn’t just a brand—it’s a card game adaptation tied to the Guild Wars IP.
NCSoft is developing Mistbound, ArenaNet provides official licensing, and Bilibili is handling global publishing.
Dynamic Movement Gameplay and commander-style battles
At the center of Mistbound is a “Dynamic Movement Gameplay” system. Instead of treating cards as static pieces, players place cards as units alongside commanders on a tactical board laid out as a 5×3 grid.
During play, you can reposition your deployed units and commanders from turn to turn to react to what the enemy does. The system is designed to support movement-driven tactics, including:
- Knockbacks that push units out of position
- Pull effects that drag targets into new engagement zones
- Flanking opportunities created by shifting formations
- Ongoing changes to offensive and defensive positioning as the fight evolves
Guild Wars commanders and deck-building hints
Mistbound’s commanders are drawn from recognizable Guild Wars characters, with each one bringing its own set of abilities, traits, and tactical identity. The official site already lists Marshal Trahearne, Countess Anise, and Knut Whitebear from Guild Wars 2, plus Nika, a hero from Guild Wars Factions.
Alongside those commander picks, the game also appears to include job-themed cards. Those listings suggest classes like Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer, and Necromancer could show up in decks, alongside additional Guild Wars 2 classes and broader Guild Wars-adjacent themes.
Competitive card game talent joins development
On the development side, the team includes a well-known figure from the competitive card game scene. Baek Hakjun—better known as “Kranich,” a former professional Hearthstone player and World Championship competitor—is credited as a game designer in a dev interview that was also posted on YouTube.
Release status, pre-registration, and earlier trademark context
There’s still no release date for Mistbound at the moment. However, the game’s website includes a pre-registration tease for players who want to sign up early.
The site also shares a glimpse at several neutral cards. Those snippets point toward deck options built around movement, dealing damage, and boosting other cards and commanders.
When the Mistbound trademarks were first observed on the USPTO and EUIPO systems—on April 27 and April 29, respectively—it was noted that ArenaNet trademarks are frequently filed under NCSoft or NC Corporation. Seeing the project finally come into view after the earlier Guild Wars 3 excitement is a welcome confirmation for anyone following the franchise’s IP trail.
Interest in the broader Guild Wars brand is currently elevated, helped along by the Guild Wars 3 announcement and by recently published blog posts.
What’s next for players
With no date set yet, Mistbound’s immediate next step is continuing to build awareness through its website content and pre-registration setup, while waiting for more concrete launch information to follow.
- Players can currently look at pre-registration details on the Mistbound website
- Neutral card snippets suggest movement-focused and support-oriented deckbuilding angles
- Commander listings and the Dynamic Movement system hint at a tactical, repositioning-heavy play pattern
