Violet Fencer I: Walkthrough Guide for Teardrop Cave Dungeon and Bosses

Echoes of Aincrad’s The Violet Fencer I is the game’s fourth major quest, arriving right after Within the Shadows. Argo tasks you with finding a hidden dungeon tucked away inside Teardrop Cave, but she won’t travel with you this time—so you’ll recruit a celebrated player named Cal instead. Here’s a walkthrough that covers how to reach the objective, what enemies to expect, and how to take down the electrified boss known as the Dire Strife Wolf.

Quest overview and where to start

Before you set out, choose the nearest Safe Area to your destination. Doing so helps reduce extra walking and minimizes the number of random fights you’ll get dragged into along the way. In this case, the closest option is the Megalith Forest: North Safe Area, which lines up nicely with the waypoint route.

The Violet Fencer I walkthrough route

Once the quest begins, you’ll want to head south from the Safe Area mentioned above. This direction takes you to the next Safe Area and region. By following the road there, you’ll come to the Thieves’ Gutter rest spot.

Choosing the correct path from Thieves’ Gutter is where things can get confusing. Even though the southern road looks like it should lead directly to the quest marker, it actually ends in a dead end. Instead, go north out of Thieves’ Gutter—then let the route curve back down toward the waypoint.

On the way in, expect fresh encounters. You may start running into enemy types like the Hunter Wolf, along with other variants you might not have seen recently.

  • New enemy encounters can include the Hunter Wolf.
  • Additional wolf variants appear during the run to the waypoint.

Enemies and loot you can find along the way

Alongside the wolf pack, you can also run into a different Shrewman type around the same area. The Wrathful Shrewman is one of those enemies, and it’s described briefly in the in-game box.

  • Col
  • Iron Ingot
  • Iron Chunk
  • Anneal Longsword
  • Bronze Axe

Dire Strife Wolf boss fight

When you finally reach the The Violet Fencer I objective point, you’ll see a yellow sealed wall. Push through and you’ll be dropped into a fight against an electrified wolf boss.

The Dire Strife Wolf is a larger electrified variant that can apply the Paralyzed ailment. If you let the Paralyzed meter fill up, you’ll end up stunned on the ground. To avoid that, either manage the fight so your partner can draw aggro, or keep moving long enough for the Paralyzed meter to drain.

How to handle Paralyzed pressure

  • Don’t allow the Paralyzed meter to fully build—otherwise you’ll be stunned and helpless on the ground.
  • Switch your partner’s mode to grab the boss’s attention when needed.
  • Alternatively, dodge for a while to let the Paralyzed meter decrease.

Attacks and patterns to watch for

Here are the main moves you should be ready for while fighting the Dire Strife Wolf:

  • Electric wave into leap slam: The wolf sends out an electric wave, then leaps into the air and slams down on you. Both parts damage you and can apply Paralyzed. The tell is subtle—watch for it to lower its stance and look up before the wave.
  • Tail spin while standing still: If it pauses for a moment, it may use its tail for a spinning attack that also applies Paralyzed. This one doesn’t have a clear warning.
  • Forward lunge: It performs a basic lunge that travels a moderate distance.
  • Agile leap pressure: The Dire Strife Wolf stays mobile, hopping around the arena frequently, which can make landing hits harder. Use partner skills when you’re close—such as Iori’s Twin Embrace

Possible drops

When you defeat the Dire Strife Wolf, some of the items you might receive include:

  • Col
  • Iron Ingot
  • Iron Chunk
  • Steel Sword
  • Steel Knife

Finish the dungeon run and what comes next

After collecting your loot, head into Teardrop Cave and locate the warp terminal inside. Once you activate the warp terminal, The Violet Fencer I is complete.

The quest then transitions into a cutscene where Iori praises Cal, and Cal suggests heading back to town to get ready. After a brief sequence back in the Town of Beginnings, you’ll be able to prepare for what’s next.

Preparation checklist before the next quest

  • Upgrade your gear.
  • Assign any Growth Points.
  • Stock up on consumables.

When you’re set, return to the Main Terminal and begin the following mission: The Violet Fencer II.
