Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Recolliger’s Plot Safe Puzzle Guide

Unlocking the locked safe aboard the Recolliger’s Plot ship in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a small side objective that hinges on the right checks and a bit of deck-side scavenging. You’ll need to examine the scattered “junk” piles on the ship and pass the required Awareness and Logic-type skill tests to progress toward the safe’s access. Once you succeed, you can interact with a cogitator that holds the safe’s code. If you want to make this run smoother, bring companions with strong Perception and Tech-Use stats—Pasqal is a common pick—or rely on your own Rogue Trader build.

Rykad Minoris safe puzzle: where it is and what you need

Activity Location Goal Requirements
Motiv(e) Force puzzle / safe access route Rykad Minoris, Upperway Open a locked safe on Recolliger’s Plot Awareness and Logic checks; interact with scrap piles and a nearby cogitator to retrieve the safe code

This guide is focused on solving the Motive Force puzzle in Rykad Minoris’s Upperway and then using what you learn there to open the locked safe found on Recolliger’s Plot in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

Before you even touch the safe route, start by boarding the ship and talking to Reta, then go through every dialogue option she offers. You can roleplay however you want, but in one playthrough the Iconoclast approach is mentioned as keeping things calm—just a polite exchange rather than anything escalating. To avoid complications, the advice is to not antagonize the Recolligers and to make sure you accept Reta’s offer to sell components at least once. If you skip her dialogue entirely, you may lose access to interacting with the safe.

Once you’ve finished speaking with Reta, follow these steps:

  1. Take the skill check on the Recolliger’s safe to confirm it’s locked.
  2. Interact with the scrap pile on the table in the middle of the deck, using an Awareness check.
  3. Interact with another scrap pile near that same middle table area.
  4. Move to the cogitator to the west of your ship. Keep running the required skill checks on that cogitator until you obtain the safe’s code.
  5. After you have the code, return to the safe and open it.

With the safe opened, the big reward is a Fractal Blade. It provides an extra 25% parry benefit on top of the 10% parry bonus that all sword-type weapons naturally grant. The important catch is that Fractal Blades are Aeldari weapons, so you’ll need Aeldari Weapon Proficiency to use them effectively.

In practice, Jae and Yrliet can use Aeldari weapons by default, which makes them good candidates if you need a sword. That said, the power curve may still drop off as you move toward the beginning of Act 3, so treat it as a helpful mid-campaign pickup rather than a guaranteed long-term staple.

You’ll also find a couple of Fire Grenades inside the Recolliger’s Plot safe. They’re not as standout as the Fractal Blade, but they still have real uses—particularly for forcing enemies out of cover or applying Burn to tougher, higher-health targets.

What else is in the Recolliger’s Plot?

There isn’t a lot more loot tied to this area. You can find some interactible objects that contain trade goods, but beyond that, there’s not much else to collect.

If your goal is to help Reta and the Recolligers instead of just grabbing the safe contents, you can return to your voidship and open Recolliger’s Plot again from the system map. That interaction offers two choices: either destroy the ship for Heretical points, or dispatch a supply shuttle to the Recolligers. The shuttle option doesn’t appear to provide any meaningful direct benefit for you.

As for the Fractal Blade itself, it’s a strong option for melee characters—but only if they have Aeldari Weapon Proficiency. If you’re shopping for weapons for other companions, you’ll likely need to look elsewhere. One example mentioned is the Unidentified Ruins in Latotian’s Passage, where you can equip a Force Sword on your melee Psykers.
