Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Earns 88 on OpenCritic, 86 on Metacritic
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is landing this week, bringing a refreshed take on one of the franchise’s most beloved entries back into the spotlight—and reviews are already backing up that hype.
Resynced Debuts With Strong Review Scores
On OpenCritic, Resynced has earned an 88. On Metacritic, it sits at 86—slightly below the original Black Flag’s 88 on Metacritic, but still strong enough to place it among the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed games ever. Only Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed 2 (90), and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (89) rank higher on Metacritic.
That placement also makes Resynced the top-scoring Assassin’s Creed entry since the original Black Flag released in 2013.
One review, giving the remake a 4/5, highlights how it preserves what made the classic adventure click while layering in enough new content to justify revisiting it. The write-up notes that if you liked the original, you’ll likely enjoy the remake as well.
Another critic praised Ubisoft for sticking closely to the classic Black Flag feel, describing Resynced as familiar but improved—“better, bigger, and markedly flashier” in the ways that matter. That same review awarded the game an 8/10. A separate five-star assessment calls it an exceptionally faithful remake that somehow elevates an already top-tier Assassin’s Creed title even further.
Where Resynced Sits Among 2026’s Highest-Rated Games
Resynced isn’t quite at the very top of the year’s critical leaderboard, though it’s close. The game arrives during a strong stretch for releases with high review averages: five games have already reached 90 or above on OpenCritic.
Pokemon Pokopia and Resident Evil Requiem debuted with 90+ ratings as well, but both have since slipped to 89s—still excellent, just not as high as at launch.
Critics landing on the positive side for Resynced could be an early signal to Ubisoft that, much like the Resident Evil approach, steadily rolling out remakes alongside brand-new Assassin’s Creed releases may be the best path forward. And if fans respond as strongly as reviewers are suggesting, the next big question will likely be which Assassin’s Creed game gets the remake treatment next—especially once Resynced releases this Thursday.
