Developed by Bangalore-based indie studio Brewed Games, Winds of Arcana: Ruination is a dark fantasy metroidvania built around Aryn, a mercenary who searches cursed regions for clues about missing comrades. The game’s moment-to-moment rhythm combines 2.5D exploration with side-scrolling combat, plus decision-making through tools, weapons, spells, and upgrades. Boss encounters appear at intervals, but the overall structure leans heavily into quest-driven progression rather than straight-line action.

Instead of presenting an exclusively linear campaign, Winds of Arcana: Ruination focuses on a build-oriented exploration flow. Players will circle back through a connected world, uncover new routes as they unlock progress, and shape Aryn’s fighting style by experimenting with different weapon and magic pairings.

While new games continue to land, Xbox Game Pass is also set to lose a chunk of its catalog on July 15, when a dozen titles are scheduled to depart the service.

Winds of Arcana: Ruination launches on Xbox Game Pass after PC debut

Winds of Arcana: Ruination was first released on PC by 1312 Interactive in November 2025 as a platform-exclusive. Almost eight months later, the Indian indie metroidvania made its way to Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Series X|S on July 6.

Although a handful of games have reportedly been quietly moved into lower Xbox Game Pass tiers since the beginning of the month, Winds of Arcana: Ruination stands out as the first newly added title to join Microsoft’s subscription lineup in July 2026.

For subscribers, the game is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. It’s also optimized for Windows handheld devices, and players can stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Xbox Play Anywhere support is included as well, enabling cross-progression across Xbox platforms.
