Ghost of Tsushima Legends Gets Anime Expo Character Art Preview
At Anime Expo, Crunchyroll treated attendees to an early character art preview for the anime adaptation of the PlayStation game Ghost of Tsushima, with a particular focus on its Legends multiplayer mode. The artwork highlights the Assassin, Ronin, and Hunter archetypes—fighters the story’s protagonist, described as one of the last remaining samurai, will encounter as he travels.
Anime Expo Teases Legends-Focused Character Lineup
The preview centers on character designs for three key classes from Legends: Assassin, Ronin, and Hunter. These are framed as allies or figures the lone samurai protagonist will meet during his journey, tying the multiplayer mythos back into the anime’s narrative.
Studios, Creative Team, and Writing Credits
Crunchyroll’s character art is credited to Takashi Okazaki, who’s also known for Afro Samurai. The adaptation is being handled by Aniplex, with Takanobu Mizuno serving as director.
Script work is attributed to Satoshi Maejima and Gen Urobuchi, both associated with NITRO PLUS, the game and visual novel studio behind earlier genre-heavy storytelling.
Crunchyroll and PlayStation Productions Comment on the Adaptation
When the anime was unveiled in January 2025, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, framed the project as a first step into the medium after PlayStation’s earlier success in film and television.
- Qizilbash said the team is excited to announce its first anime adaptation, pointing to the “quality and versatility” shown by PlayStation properties across multiple successful film and TV releases.
- He also praised Ghost of Tsushima for its immersive setting and the “fantastical” Legends mode rooted in Japanese mythology, describing it as a strong fit for an anime translation.
- The comments specifically position Aniplex as the right partner to adapt Sucker Punch Productions’ game into a new animated series.
Release Window and Where to Watch
The series is planned for release exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.
