Top 7 Major One Piece Pirates Who Conquered the Harsh New World
In the world of One Piece, the sea known as the New World is widely treated as the most brutal and unforgiving stretch of ocean. It represents the second half of the Grand Line, where the first half starts to feel almost gentle by comparison. Because of that reputation, plenty of players and fans expect that once a crew reaches these waters, survival becomes the real objective—and for many, it never turns into anything more than a brief attempt.
Zoan Devil Fruits may dominate the franchise, but the New World has shown that Paramecia users can be just as dangerous when they’re backed by skill, Haki, and ambition. Still, even the strongest pirates can meet the same end here: crews shattered, allies betrayed, and legends erased by the sea’s harsh reality.

7 Basil Hawkins
- Pirate Crew: Hawkins Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Wara Wara no Mi
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation
Basil Hawkins comes from the North Blue and is presented as a fighter with real presence. He’s also identified as part of the Worst Generation, which sets him up for exactly the kind of New World entrance that ends with a lasting reputation—at least in theory.
Unfortunately for Hawkins, his story in these waters doesn’t land cleanly. He betrays his alliance with Eustass Kid and then surrenders to Kaido. After that, Hawkins takes on the role of a Headliner within the Beast Pirates, and he stays there through the end of the conflict.
During the Onigashima War, Hawkins goes up against Killer. For all the tricks he can pull, the outcome still turns against him—he’s defeated, and his status is described as potentially dead.
6 Killer
- Pirate Crew: Kid Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Artificial SMILE
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation
Killer is known as the right-hand man of Captain Kid, and in Wano his abilities are shown in a way that makes him feel like a threat even before the bigger matchups start. His last battle ends with him defeating Basil Hawkins, proving that Hawkins wasn’t the only one bringing “survival” tactics to the table.
That momentum doesn’t last once the Red Hair Emperor enters the picture. When Killer faces Shanks, he has no real chance and is destroyed outright. Shanks sends Killer to the bottom of the ocean, and both his crew and his exact fate remain unclear even after everything that’s happened.
5 Doflamingo
- Pirate Crew: Donquixote Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Ito Ito no Mi
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation, Color of the Supreme King
Doflamingo—the “Heavenly Demon”—is framed as someone with overwhelming power and the kind of charisma that feels built for the top of the world. Even though he’s clearly a villain, his drive and presence are tied to a Pirate King mindset, and his kit backs it up through a mix of Haki and Devil Fruit strength.
When the Straw Hat Pirates arrive in Dressrosa, his brand of cruelty escalates beyond what feels believable, and it doesn’t take long for it to collapse. Fans can read the writing on the wall: Doflamingo doesn’t have much time left in this ocean. Luffy defeats him, and the Navy arrests him.
From there, Doflamingo is placed in Impel Down under heavy guard. His entire crew is also wiped out, and there’s no successor left to continue his work. With the Donquixote Pirates effectively gone, the man himself stops existing as a functioning pirate—and regardless of his abilities, he becomes another victim of the New World’s brutal conditions.
While Luffy’s Nika Devil Fruit is positioned as one of the franchise’s strongest assets, Elbaf is said to set up a different Hito Hito no Mi God Fruit concept that comes with a major advantage over it.
4 Eustass Kid
- Pirate Crew: Kid Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Jiki Jiki no Mi
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation, Color of the Supreme King
Eustass Kid hails from the South Blue and is repeatedly described as a major power in his own right. He’s also part of the Worst Generation, which puts him in the same “next wave” group as Luffy, and it gives his presence in big events a sense of inevitability.
Kid is a key figure in the Wano War, where he clashes with Big Mom. With Law’s help, the two manage to defeat her by combining their abilities and pushing beyond their limits.
After Wano, Kid secures a bounty worth 3 billion berries, only to get shut down immediately when Shanks steps in. When Kid faces the Red-Haired Emperor, he gets taken out in a single shot. At the same time, the Giant Pirates assist Shanks in destroying the Kid Pirates’ ship, leaving Kid’s crew facing what’s basically total annihilation.
3 Trafalgar Law
- Pirate Crew: Heart Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Ope Ope no Mi
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation
Trafalgar Law, often called the Surgeon of Death, is a notorious pirate hailing from the North Blue. He eventually makes his way to the Grand Line with the Heart Pirates, bringing his crew along for the ride and establishing himself as a serious player in dangerous waters.
Law’s power is treated as proven, and his performance in Wano is used as the evidence. After Wano, he gains a bounty of 3 billion berries, but the New World still finds a way to strip away momentum.
Blackbeard—described as Yonko Blackbeard—ends up decimating Law anyway. Even though Law fights with a solid effort, he can’t defeat Blackbeard. In the end, Law, his flagship, and the Heart Pirates are all destroyed by Teach, with most of them sent to the bottom of the ocean.
2 Big Mom
- Pirate Crew: Big Mom Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Soru Soru no Mi
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation, Color of the Supreme King
Big Mom is introduced as a former Emperor of the Sea who ruled the New World for years. She spends decades searching for the One Piece while holding onto her place in the region, which makes her fall feel like a major shift rather than just another defeat.
In the Wano storyline, Big Mom fights against Kid and Law. The two ultimately bring her down by joining forces—leaning into their combined power and refusing to stop even as the situation pushes them past normal boundaries.
Even with all that strength, her end is framed as unavoidable. When a new era rises, strong-willed figures take the stage and the old giants get knocked aside. Big Mom isn’t spared by the tide of change, and she’s eventually thrown off Onigashima. Whether she actually dies is left uncertain for now.
1 Kaido
- Pirate Crew: Beast Pirates
- Devil Fruit: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu
- Haki Types: Color of Armament, Color of Observation, Color of the Supreme King
Kaido is labeled as the strongest creature in the world, and he’s another fighter who ends up falling in the New World. After the Rocks Pirates fall apart, Kaido sets up his base in Wano and grows even stronger over time, turning the country into his long-term stronghold.
He rules Wano for more than 20 years before finally confronting Luffy. When the fight begins, Kaido comes to the realization that Luffy is Joy Boy, and he understands he won’t be able to stop what’s coming.
As Luffy learns every form of Advanced Haki and even awakens his Devil Fruit, the direction of the battle becomes obvious. Kaido’s crew is ultimately wiped out, with some members arrested in Wano while the whereabouts of the remaining survivors are unknown. Kaido himself is sent to the bottom of an underwater volcano, which erupts violently afterward—so his death may already be a fact, though it isn’t confirmed outright.
