How to Read the Silo Books in Order: Wool Trilogy Guide
Silo is one of the more compelling Apple TV+ shows right now, mixing grim dystopian sci-fi, strong performances, and a story built on solid written material. Like many of Apple’s breakout series, it traces its roots back to a book franchise.
How the Wool Trilogy Became a TV Series
The Wool trilogy—also referred to as the Silo Series—was written by Hugh Howey. The origin of the franchise goes back to 2011, when the first entry appeared as a self-published short story. As interest grew, Howey expanded that concept into a five-part novella, which then evolved into the first full book in the series, titled “Wool.” After that, he published two additional books over the following couple of years to complete the trilogy.
Film rights were first sold in May 2012 to 20th Century Fox, but the adaptation didn’t move forward. One reason cited for the stall was the corporate shift after Disney acquired the company at the end of 2017. The next major development came in 2018, when AMC announced it would be adapting Wool for television. That project later shifted platforms and was taken to Apple TV in 2021.
