GTA 6 60FPS Mode Rumors Face Doubt as Tech Experts Warn Against Leaks
You may have seen fresh claims online suggesting Grand Theft Auto 6 will include a 60 frames-per-second mode. Those rumors trace back to retailer-style listings floating around the internet. But with Rockstar’s next major release, it’s smart to treat early paperwork leaks and listing text as exactly what they are: unverified until Rockstar says otherwise.
Digital Foundry’s technical team says they have not seen anything so far—either from the recently shared screenshots or short clips—that points to a 60fps option being feasible on current-generation consoles. Of course, nothing here is official from Rockstar, and until the studio confirms performance targets, players should assume the safe option is “unknown.”
“Unfortunately, the level of detail evident in the trailer, preorder screenshots and other, more recent footage seems extremely challenging to scale down in a way that allows for a 60fps mode,” DF’s Will Judd said.
Why 60fps Looks Unlikely on Current Consoles
DF’s analysis leans on how demanding simulation-heavy games tend to be on the CPUs inside the nearly six-year-old console hardware. In DF’s view, the GTA 6 world appears to require more processing headroom than games such as Dragon’s Dogma 2 or Baldur’s Gate 3, and that gap matters when you’re also trying to maintain higher frame rates.
There’s also the open-world factor. GTA 6 isn’t just about what’s on screen—it’s about how quickly you can move through that world, which can multiply the amount of work the system must handle at any given moment. Because of that combination, DF forecasts a 30fps target for GTA 6 across the consoles, concluding that a 60fps mode is “a bridge too far.”
Even PS5 Pro, the more powerful model in Sony’s lineup, isn’t expected to solve the core framerate challenge. DF argues that PS5 Pro only brings “a fractional CPU performance bump” over the standard PS5. In other words, the Pro is positioned more around improvements like enhanced ray tracing and support for PSSR upscaling than it is around pushing native higher frame rates.
At best, DF says PS5 Pro might be able to offer a 40fps mode, but it’s presented as speculation rather than a confirmed feature.
Rockstar’s past release patterns also don’t help the 60fps rumor. GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all debuted on console with 60fps support, but the common theme was fidelity prioritized at 30fps. DF’s implication is that Rockstar generally hasn’t built its console releases around delivering 60fps as a core design pillar.
More Rumors, More Reasons to Be Cautious
Performance talk isn’t the only shaky GTA 6 rumor circulating. Over the weekend, reports highlighted viral social posts claiming a physical disc version of GTA 6 was being prepared. Those claims, in the end, turned out not to be true.
The question then becomes: why wouldn’t Rockstar plan a disc edition, potentially provoking backlash from players who expect physical releases? Analysts shared a set of commercially logical answers, suggesting there are practical business considerations behind the decision. At the same time, some retailers reportedly declined to sell GTA 6 because the physical version reportedly lacks a disc.
In other words, even beyond framerate rumors, there’s a wider pattern here: GTA 6-related claims spread quickly, but the details still need verification—especially when they affect what players can actually buy and play.
Edition Pricing and What Players Said
There’s also the practical side of the rollout: which version players plan to purchase. Last week, IGN reported results from a community poll asking whether players intend to buy the $100 Ultimate Edition or the $80 Standard Edition. The outcome was notably tilted toward the pricier option, with more than 70% saying they plan to go for the Ultimate Edition.
- Community interest appears stronger for the $100 Ultimate Edition than the $80 Standard Edition.
- The broader GTA 6 rumor cycle includes both performance claims and product-format claims.
- Until Rockstar confirms details, retailer-style information and social posts should be treated as unverified.
GTA 6 is set to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, 2026.
Bottom Line for Players Waiting on GTA 6
If you’re hoping for a confirmed 60fps mode, DF’s takeaway is clear: the current evidence doesn’t support it on current consoles, and even PS5 Pro may only reach a modest improvement in framerate targets at best. Meanwhile, the noise around GTA 6 isn’t limited to performance—there have also been false claims about a disc-based physical release. For now, the most player-relevant approach is patience: wait for Rockstar’s own confirmation before building expectations around either frame rate or edition formats.
