Black Ops 7 Kowakujo Boss Guide: Best Nyxara Loadout to Win
Nyxara is the dragon final boss for the Kowakujo encounter, and going in unprepared is a fast route to getting wiped. The good news: this guide is built from experience clearing her multiple times, using a setup that’s reliable during the damage windows. Below you’ll find a full, practical loadout—covering weapons, gear, field upgrades, and GobbleGums—plus clear tips for beating Nyxara efficiently so you can push through to the end cutscene.
This is a complete walkthrough for the Kowakujo main-quest easter egg in Black Ops 7 Zombies, including the steps needed to reach the final cutscene.
Best Weapons for the Kowakujo Boss Fight
M34 Novaline
- Build Code: M03-21WSP-DGAE5-Q911
The M34 Novaline has stayed near the top of the meta for boss encounters, and Nyxara is no exception. This fight rarely gives you the opportunity to play close-range, so you’ll want a weapon with solid reach and strong stopping power—exactly where the M34 Novaline shines.
It provides plenty of effective range, along with a high ammo reserve and a strong fire rate so you can keep firing during the damage phase. When you’re shooting, prioritize the glowing crit targets on Nyxara—her wings, eyes, and neck.
1911s (Mustang & Sally)
- Build Code: P07-AABQ1-5865D-11
For handling Onis and regular zombies, I default to the 1911s. Yes, their ammo pool can disappear quickly, but they’re also the kind of pistols that keep you safe—no zombie is getting close when you’re holding explosive pistols. The damage can delete Onis in seconds, and it becomes even more consistent if you’re running Shadow Rift, since that’s their stated weakness.
That said, I don’t use the 1911s as my Nyxara damage option. Instead, they’re what I bring when the goal is to quickly eliminate Onis to grab their flags and progress the encounter. Their power and splash damage make it hard for anything to block your path.
If you have Mule Kick, you can add the Nekomancer into your lineup. Even so, despite how much I enjoy that Wonder Weapon, it isn’t a practical choice for damaging Nyxara or for taking down Onis during this fight.
Before you start the Kowakujo boss sequence, make sure your weapons are Pack-a-Punch Tier 3 (or Tier 4 if you’re playing Cursed).
Best Field Upgrade & Equipment for the Kowakujo Boss Fight
Frenzied Guard
- Frenzy Fire (Major Augment)
- Dual Layer & Extension (Minor Augments)
For my Nyxara attempts, I used Frenzied Guard. Aether Shroud is useful in general—especially for reviving teammates—but it’s not the most dependable option here. Nyxara’s deadly tornadoes and fireballs can still tag you through splash damage, which makes survival less consistent.
I picked Frenzied Guard because it instantly restores your armor and makes it more durable. That lets you stay focused on surviving long enough to keep dealing damage. Aether Shroud is also less valuable once you’ve set up the flags, since you’ll already be working under a protective bubble.
LT53 Kazimir
I wouldn’t try any boss fight without LT53 Kazimir. It’s an essential Tactical Equipment that pulls zombies into a black hole, functioning like an upgraded version of the Monkey Bomb—but stronger, especially when Max Ammos keep rewarding you.
Disciple Injector
Your Scorestreak choice doesn’t really matter in this encounter, but the Disciple Injector is still a strong pickup when you need breathing room right before you’re about to be killed. Pop it and you become immune to damage. I wouldn’t swap to anything else, since Scorestreaks don’t contribute much damage to Nyxara.
Alternatively, you can bring the upgraded Maneki Neko, which grants a 15-second shield bubble that zombies can’t enter.
Best GobbleGums for the Kowakujo Boss Fight
GobbleGums are optional—you don’t truly need them to clear the boss. Still, if you have extras and want to bring some insurance, here are the GobbleGums I’d recommend:
Instantly refills your armor and doubles its strength.
Grants Full Power so you can trigger your Field Upgrade immediately.
Lets you revive yourself while keeping all of your perks.
Revives downed allies instantly, and they retain their perks.
Best Perks for the Kowakujo Boss Fight
Realistically, you’ll want every perk ready for the Kowakujo boss fight. That said, a few matter more than the rest:
If your armor runs out, you’ll have more health to fall back on.
With armor equipped, you last longer and absorb more damage.
When you deal damage while downed, you revive with all of your Perks.
You also get more time while downed, and reviving teammates restores you to full health.
Switching weapons and reloading happens much faster.
Bullet-based weapons fire quicker, penetrate better, and deal bonus damage to the same target—boosting boss DPS significantly.
Increase critical damage and bullet damage to push boss DPS even higher.
The boss arena is large, so you’ll want speed to sprint between flag placements.
How to Beat Nyxara, the Kowakujo Boss Fight in Black Ops 7 Zombies
During the boss phase, you need to stop fixating on Nyxara and focus on the Onis instead. Each Oni runs around with a flag on its back. When you kill an Oni, you can grab that flag and place it into the marked area with a circular zone on the floor. After you place a flag, you’ll have to defend it from incoming zombies. Once the defense completes, a shield bubble will appear.
That shield bubble is your cue to damage Nyxara. Zombies can’t attack you while it’s active, and Nyxara’s attacks can’t go through the shield. Stick to Nyxara’s glowing crit points—her eyes, plus any parts of her wings, body, and neck that glow orange.

When the shield bubble fades, rotate back through the arena and hunt for the Oni again to place another flag. As Nyxara’s health starts dropping, you’ll need to capture 2 flags, then 3 flags, before the shield bubbles activate again. For her attacks, keep moving—sprint constantly to dodge fireballs, volcanic meteors, and tornadoes that can launch you into the air.
