The Coalition Warns of Known Issues in Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta
The Coalition has published the official list of known issues for the open beta of Gears of War: E-Day, warning players that the test build may include crashes, performance dips, and visual glitches that are expected to be fixed ahead of the game’s scheduled October 6 release.
In its update, the studio stressed that the beta does not reflect the final quality bar. That means instability and bugs—ranging from matchmaking delays to accessibility tuning—are part of what the team is actively trying to identify before launch. The company also asked players to report any additional problems through its support portal.
What to expect in the open beta
- Performance and stability are still being worked on, so unexpected crashes or frame drops can occur.
- Players may run into latency issues or longer matchmaking wait times due to the number of people in the beta.
- Some accessibility features, including the narrator, are still under adjustment.
- Visual bugs may appear, including problems tied to cover, scenario streaming, sudden object spawns, or areas showing up outside the map boundaries.
PC known issues and required updates
For the PC version, the studio outlined several technical requirements and troubleshooting notes.
- Driver minimums are required:
- NVIDIA: GeForce Game Ready Driver 610.74
- AMD: 26.6.4
- Intel: 101.8864
- Older versions of OBS can cause crashes; the studio recommends OBS 29.0.0 or newer.
- Intel Arc GPUs may recompile shaders every time the game starts, leading to longer load times.
- Intel Arc A580 and B580 performance may drop significantly if Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is disabled in BIOS.
- Comodo Antivirus users may be unable to launch the game if the antivirus blocks the executable.
- Logging into different accounts via the Xbox App and the Microsoft Store will prevent online play.
- Steam Machine account linking does not work during the beta.
- Frame Generation is temporarily disabled.
- The frame rate is capped at 150 FPS during the beta.
- Sometimes switching display modes can cause the game to not properly fill the monitor.
Xbox Series S: a Horde Siege performance note
There’s also a specific issue called out for Xbox Series S. Some players may experience brief pauses or stuttering after long sessions playing Horde Siege when using Quality Mode.
Temporary fix: fully close the game and relaunch it to restore normal performance for the next session.
Beta feedback is the point
The Coalition reiterated that these incidents are part of the development process for the open test. The goal is to gather enough information to polish the experience before Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6.
