Switch 2 Gets Co-Op Horror Addition Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch Revealed
Switch 2 horror is getting another addition soon, with Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch, a new co-op-only project from Atlantis Studios. The console has already seen a noticeable surge in horror releases since its 2025 launch, including several high-profile third-party ports aimed squarely at players who want spine-tingling experiences on Nintendo’s successor.
Horror is returning to Nintendo systems in a major way. After the Switch 2 arrived in 2025, multiple studios started bringing their standout horror catalogues over to the platform, including Konami’s Silent Hill f, Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem, and Bloober’s Cronos: The New Dawn. Bloober has also been associated with a Switch 2 exclusive that the studio claims is only feasible on Nintendo’s current hardware. While fans wait to see what that mystery project turns into, Atlantis Studios has now revealed a fresh Switch 2 exclusive horror game—one with a premise that feels unusual for the genre.
There’s also been chatter among players about Sony’s recent decisions being controversial enough to push some gamers toward the Switch 2 instead.
Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is a Switch 2 Co-Op Horror Game Where Communication is Key
French developer Atlantis Studio has announced its first game, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch. It’s set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, and it’s built around co-op horror where two players must coordinate closely rather than simply team up.
The core idea centers on asymmetrical co-op, mixing concepts associated with games like Phasmophobia and It Takes Two into a horror package. Atlantis Studio’s pitch is straightforward: one player wakes up inside a haunted house and tries to escape, while the second player takes on the role of guide and coordinator from a different vantage point. The game’s director emphasis is clear—what the second player tells the first player can determine whether the escape attempt goes smoothly or collapses entirely. In other words, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch treats communication as a gameplay mechanic, not a background detail.
Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is designed as an entirely co-operative experience. That means Switch 2 owners who don’t have a friend lined up to play may have trouble getting any enjoyment out of it. The developer has not yet confirmed whether the game will include a friend-access feature similar to the one used in It Takes Two, which could otherwise make it easier to jump in without hunting down another copy. Alongside the reveal, Atlantis Studio released a short gameplay trailer that leans into a tight, claustrophobic mood and introduces what looks like a stalker-style threat that will likely pressure players inside the house.
Asymmetric co-op and horror have both been hot categories with players lately. Dead by Daylight continues to stand as a major asymmetrical horror benchmark, and the genre’s reach has expanded into larger franchises such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, along with the upcoming Saw horror release. On the co-op side, It Takes Two and Split Fiction have been widely praised for leaning on teamwork and communication-first design, breaking away from the usual “solo storyteller” model. Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch appears poised to blend those two trends—bringing asymmetrical horror pressure together with a co-op structure that demands coordination.
Atlantis Studio has not shared a definitive release date yet. However, the game could land in the Halloween season, which would also help it arrive before a particularly busy fall for Switch 2 owners. Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is expected to dominate many players’ schedules, and FromSoftware’s Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is also planned for 2026 with substantial ongoing hype. Whether Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch can find the right place in this year’s lineup—and whether it becomes a hit once it’s finally in players’ hands—will depend on how it fits into that crowded window.
