Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuta Okkotsu’s Best Innate Techniques, Ranked by Impact
Among the Innate Techniques introduced across the Jujutsu Kaisen story, only a small number truly feel reality-bending—abilities that can swing outcomes in a way that goes beyond raw damage. Yuta Okkotsu’s Copy places him in that rare group, not just by giving him a massive supply of Cursed Energy, but by letting him borrow other sorcerers’ powers. That makes him one of the most important figures in the fight against Ryomen Sukuna, yet fans usually only associate him with a limited set of techniques. Even among those known abilities, the power level isn’t uniform: some are practical tools, while others are outright overwhelming.
Reaching for “Game-Changing” Techniques
Special Grade curses are already terrifying on their own, capable of overwhelming even top-tier sorcerers in short order. Against that kind of threat, the difference between “effective” and “decisive” comes down to which Innate Technique you can access—and what kind of advantage it creates.
Key Innate Techniques Yuta (and Others) Used
7 — G Warstaff
- Bernard holding G Warstaff while preparing to fight Hakari.
- Yuta using G Warstaff during his battle against Sukuna.
- Yuta evading Sukuna’s attacks thanks to what G Warstaff enables.
First seen through the emerging manga author Charles Bernard, G Warstaff takes the form of a spear-like weapon: a blade surrounded by feathers. On its own, the spear doesn’t grant additional powers. The technique truly activates only after the wielder draws blood from their opponent. Once that condition is met, the user can view the target’s immediate future, letting them anticipate what’s coming and plan movements accordingly.
Yuta acquired G Warstaff after Bernard was defeated, with Rika consuming part of the original user. During the heroes’ fight, the ability helped them predict certain movements from Sukuna early on, helping them sidestep attacks that could have been fatal. However, the technique doesn’t scale into an automatic win against opponents with far greater combat capability. Even if you can foresee the next action, if the opponent’s overall power is higher—and your advantage is noticeably weaker—you can still end up losing, as demonstrated in both Bernard’s case and later against Ryomen.
6 — Dhruv’s Shikigami
- Dhruv preparing to fight Yuta during the Culling Games.
- Yuta summoning Shikigami through Dhruv’s technique.
- Yuta attacking Uro with Shikigami summoned via Dhruv’s ability.
Shikigami are among the most intriguing elements of the Jujutsu Kaisen setting—powerful, eerie spirit servants that assist their owner in combat. Many techniques in the franchise are built around these entities, including the one used by the uncanny Dhvruv (spelled “Dhvruv” in the description). His unnamed approach involved summoning multiple rat-like and lizard-like flying Shikigami. They moved around the battlefield in a sphere-shaped pattern.
Individually, the creatures weren’t dangerous because they never directly attacked the opponent. Still, they created a major threat through what they controlled.
Shikigami function as conjured tools for Jujutsu sorcerers, but managing these entities requires exceptional skill and experience.
Any opponent who touched, or tried to cross, the path traced by the Shikigami would be cut apart immediately. The effective radius wasn’t massive, but it was still large enough to trap enemies or block direct approaches. Yuta put this technique to strong use against Kurourushi and Uro. Against someone like Sukuna, though, it likely would have helped very little—since the Shikigami’s movement patterns are easy to read, and a strong enough fighter can destroy them quickly.
5 — Cursed Speech
Even though it’s extremely powerful, one reason the Jujutsu Kaisen universe doesn’t feel quite as intimidating to many fans as some other top-tier shonen is that most Innate Techniques come with heavy restrictions. If those limits didn’t exist, an ability like Inumaki’s Cursed Speech would be broken beyond belief. The technique lets the user infuse their words with Cursed Energy. Anyone who hears those words is forced to obey the commands—whether it’s something as simple as ordering someone to speak the truth or something far more lethal, like giving an order that shuts the body down.
Despite being versatile and powerful, Cursed Speech carries brutal consequences for the caster. Giving strong commands and aiming at formidable opponents can cause severe harm to the user’s body, potentially escalating to total loss of the voice or even death. Because of these drawbacks, Yuta treats the technique as a last-resort option. Relying on other copied Innate Techniques instead helps him avoid being forced out of the fight too early.
4 — Brain Transmutation
- Kenjaku making a smug expression in Suguru Geto’s body (Image via MAPPA).
- Yuta in Gojo’s body preparing to fight Sukuna.
Innate Techniques are often judged by how much damage they can deal, but sometimes an ability’s real strength is the advantage it creates for the caster. Brain Transmutation—shown through Kenjaku—is a clear example of that idea in action. The ancient sorcerer remained one of the most feared presences in the Jujutsu Kaisen world thanks to his ability to move his brain into whichever body he chose.
With that method, the user didn’t just gain physical attributes of the host—they also inherited the host’s Innate Technique. The best-known example involves Kenjaku taking over Suguru Geto’s body to obtain Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Later, Yuta used this same kind of takeover to take control of Gojo, giving him access to Limitless and the Six Eyes, both of which proved crucial during the final assault on Sukuna.
3 — Sky Manipulation
- Uro preparing to fight Yuta during the Culling Games.
- Uro using Sky Manipulation to bend reality around her.
- Yuta using Sky Manipulation after Rika copied it during the Culling Games.
One of the reasons Jujutsu Kaisen lands with fans is the variety of ways Innate Techniques interact with the environment. Uro’s Sky Manipulation is a prime example: it lets her interact directly with the space referred to as the “sky,” meaning the area existing between objects. Using it, she can change attack directions, throw opponents off balance, or even unleash massive shockwaves.
Her control works by grabbing a portion of existence—folding it around her fingers like a sheet—then moving that folded space around or breaking it.
When the story ended, many sorcerers failed to reach their full potential, which left plenty of disappointment behind.
Sky Manipulation isn’t among the strongest Innate Techniques ever created, especially compared to options that are even more destructive. Still, it was potent enough to pressure Yuta, one of the few Special Grade sorcerers. Eventually, Yuta absorbed the technique, and it became essential to Sukuna’s defeat during the final phase. Through Thin Ice Break—where the user shatters the sky around a target to generate a huge repulsion force—Sukuna was left gravely damaged.
2 — Technique Extinguishment
Introduced during the Culling Game Arc, Angel was framed as an ancient force for good, with a mission focused on hunting sorcerers who refused to pass peacefully. Her signature ability, Technique Extinguishment, was a perfect fit: it could completely erase a target’s powers. Its strongest form is called Jacob’s Ladder, a towering pillar of light that burns away Cursed Energy.
Angel’s technique mattered deeply for the heroes in the final battle against Sukuna. It worked as both a nullifier against the oppressive abilities of the villain and as direct damage to his soul, which was tied to his fingers. Yuta used it in the final moments to give Yuji and the rest of his allies a real opening to beat Ryomen. Even though Angel’s abilities aren’t inherently lethal, her toolkit proved to be among the best counters any sorcerer could ask for.
1 — Shrine
- Ryomen Sukuna raising a fist while in Yuji’s body (Image via MAPPA).
- Yuta using Cleave to strike Sukuna during the final battle.
- Sukuna taking hits from Dismantle during the final battle against the heroes.
Ryomen Sukuna is the franchise’s central villain and one of the cruelest sorcerers to ever live. His name alone was enough to spark panic, and his power, fighting ability, and mastery of Cursed Energy were only comparable to near-divine fighters like Gojo Satoru. With a character like that, it isn’t surprising that Sukuna’s Innate Technique—Shrine—was so overpowered. Shrine unleashes devastating slashes with a wide area of effect, capable of destroying almost anything in their path.
The technique is absurdly strong because it can cut through nearly any kind of defense, and it doesn’t require a point of contact. Sukuna can launch slashes from a distance and wipe out entire blocks without needing effort. Yuta gained access to Shrine through Yuji, whose body had become familiar with the technique because Yuji was acting as Sukuna’s vessel. Okkotsu used it sparingly since it burns through an enormous amount of Cursed Energy, but even limited use was enough for him to seriously injure Ryomen during the final clash.
