Recruiting Maroons Templar Hunt Guide in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Recruiting Maroons is a Templar Hunt quest in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag — often referred to in community guides as “Resynced.” It’s the second assignment for Anto, an Assassin operating out of Kingston, and the job is simple in description but messy in execution: find the captured Maroons, free them, and strengthen the Assassins’ ranks.

Checklists

Recruiting Maroons is the second quest for Anto, an Assassin based in Kingston. This Templar Hunt tasks you with locating and rescuing multiple captives while staying alert for opportunities, including a possible Templar Key. Here’s the walkthrough for finding every Maroon and getting them out safely.

Recruiting Maroons

To push the Templar Hunt forward, you’ll need to report to Anto and start the Recruiting Maroons quest. The immediate objective is to liberate Anto’s allies who have been captured, with the added chance you may stumble across a Templar Key along the way. Follow Anto’s lead to begin.

Free the Maroons

You’ll have to rescue three separate groups of Maroons to finish the quest. The first group is positioned directly ahead of where Anto brings you. Before you head up the path, hire the intoxicated men causing trouble to your right.

Those drunkards can act as your cover—if anyone spots you, you’ll have some backup while you work. The guards aren’t prepared for Assassins, and you can remove them quickly without turning the area into a full-blown alarm. Start by double assassinating the two guards positioned at the front gate.

That initial double assassination should stay quiet enough that it won’t pull attention. Anto slips in next and eliminates the guard near the leaf pile, leaving one pair still guarding the enslaved Maroon. Finish the job with another double assassination and free the captive.

The second Maroon is escorted through the city by four guards. If you want speed, double assassinate the two guards at the rear while the group is moving. Anto then runs in to assassinate the third guard, and you can take out the fourth with one more assassination before he has a chance to draw his weapon.

The third Maroon is held inside the yard of a large white house. Guards are posted at both entrances, but you can follow Anto’s suggestion and scale the fence for a stealthier approach that avoids direct lines of sight.

Once you’re inside, use the hay bale for cover because the guards will start getting suspicious if you move too openly. Assassinate the captain, release the captive, and then remove the remaining guards if you end up detected during the scramble.

Assassinate the Officer

After all three Maroons are freed, Anto sends you to deal with the officer responsible for rounding everyone up. He patrols the western side of Kingston and travels with three guards, so you’ll need to plan for a small escort.

If you want a more tactical, overhead option, you can perform an aerial double assassination by using the ropes and clotheslines that connect rooftops across Kingston. Alternatively, you can fight from a distance with pistols or use your blowpipe to disrupt the group without getting too close.

If you’re going for direct combat, you’ll need to break the officer’s defenses with a pistol shot first; only then can you actually land damage. Otherwise, he’ll cut your offensive attempts short by interrupting your attacks.

Once the officer is taken care of, head back to Anto to finish the quest and move on to what comes next.
