Pokémon GO 10th Anniversary Event Reveals a Super-Rare Gimmighoul Variant

Pokémon GO has unveiled what players can earn during its 10th Anniversary Party event, including a special Gimmighoul variant that could end up among the rarest Pokémon in the franchise. Pokémon GO has a long history of spotlighting costumed Pokémon—critters wearing themed outfits like hats and other cosmetic items—and many of these event versions can also be shiny. However, unlike the mainline games, these costumed/variant Pokémon don’t generally carry over to the core series.

July 2026 is shaping up to be a packed month for Pokémon GO. The calendar includes a Legendary event centered on Mega Rayquaza, plus a Professor Willow-themed event featuring a special Pikachu variant dressed as Professor Willow. On top of that, players will also have the chance to jump into the 10th Anniversary Party event and chase its dedicated Pokémon reward.

Pokémon GO has now laid out the full details for its 9th Anniversary Party as well, including long-awaited Pokémon debuts and a set of bonuses. (In the same broader context of upcoming celebrations, the game is also preparing for the 10th Anniversary Party and its signature variant.)

Pokémon GO’s 10th Anniversary Rare Gimmighoul Variant Goes Live

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, Pokémon GO is adding a unique Gimmighoul variant featuring an anniversary coin marked with the number 10 on its back, replacing the usual coin design. While some other returning variants arriving for the event—like Pikachu wearing a cake hat, Eevee with a party hat, and Wurmple sporting a party hat—make their differences obvious at a glance, this particular Gimmighoul change is subtler. That means it can be difficult to instantly distinguish the anniversary version from the standard one.

The 10th anniversary Gimmighoul can appear with a Special Background, and players can also use a Coin Bag to encourage Gimmighoul to spawn as a shiny.

  • The 10th Anniversary Party event runs from Saturday, July 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time until Monday, July 6 at 8:00 p.m. local time.
  • The 10th anniversary Gimmighoul remains available throughout the month of July 2026.

This Gimmighoul variant is not just an event-time appearance—it’s exclusive to the anniversary lineup. It’s also a brand-new take after the 9-year Gimmighoul variant, which had a 9 on its coin. The two versions have very few differences, with the most important visual cue being the number visible on the coin on Gimmighoul’s back. Even with that small change, the distinction is what makes both the 9th anniversary Gimmighoul and the new 10th anniversary version feel especially limited and worth collecting, since they end up being fundamentally different versions because of that one detail. Beyond the anniversary, Pokémon GO has also said that next month’s Community Day will be focused on Sobble.

During the event window (July 4 through July 6), players will get additional boosts: 4x XP for catching Pokémon, 4x Stardust for catching Pokémon, and boosted shiny odds for Pokémon tied to the event. Outside of those dates, the anniversary Gimmighoul itself can still be found across the entire month of July.
