Play The Odyssey: Defy the Gods in Roblox—Official Nolan Tie-In Now Live
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has landed a brand-new official Roblox tie-in you can jump into right now.
To experience Odysseus’ story firsthand, you’ll want to boot up Roblox and look for the free-to-play game titled The Odyssey: Defy the Gods. In it, you can sail across the ocean with friends, gather supplies, and work through puzzles. The developers also promise a “new ocean” during each run, hinting that the map layout may shift between voyages or that the environment changes in some way. On top of that, expect hazards like storms and whirlpools, which should add pressure to every trip.
Roblox’s listing places the companion experience in the 18+ category, citing violence and “fear” as reasons for the rating. Given that The Odyssey is an R-rated film, that limitation is probably not too surprising—but it still offers a convenient way to build anticipation for one of the biggest releases of the summer.
This isn’t the first time Hollywood has leaned into Roblox for marketing. Titles such as Black Adam and the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon have previously used user-generated Roblox games to help promote their theatrical runs. More broadly, UGC has become a major part of the strategy, and that approach has even spilled over into other popular games like Fortnite.
As for the film itself, The Odyssey is only a few weeks away. The movie is Christopher Nolan’s first project since his big 2023 Oscars sweep for Oppenheimer. There’s also a widely held belief that Nolan effectively had a blank-check level of freedom to adapt Homer’s epic without holding back on scale. Clocking in at nearly three hours, the feature brings together a major cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, and many more.
Tickets for The Odyssey are already available, though making it to a 70MM IMAX screening may be tougher. The format the movie is intended for reportedly sold out quickly, but IMAX has been working to extend showtimes through August to give more people a chance to see it the way Nolan planned.
Does The Odyssey seem like the right type of story for Christopher Nolan to adapt?
