Obsession Lands on Digital, Blu-ray Preorders Open for Home Release

While its box office momentum continues to roll in, Obsession has unexpectedly shown up on premium video-on-demand services, offering both rental and purchase options—without any prior public heads-up.

Obsession Now Available on Digital Streaming, Blu-ray Up for Preorder

Obsession

The film’s digital rollout was originally scheduled for June 2, a plan that would have limited its time as a theater exclusive to roughly two weeks. Even with that tighter window in mind, Obsession was already building serious momentum: it recouped its budget in its opening weekend and continued to climb week after week.

That kind of performance makes delays feel less shocking. After more than two months in theaters, Obsession has generated over $370 million at the box office, earning the top spot as Focus Features’ highest-grossing title. It has also landed in the top 20 highest-grossing horror movies of all time—yes, all time.

As a result, the move to premium video-on-demand arrives right in the middle of that run. The digital version is now available to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99.

Online discussion boards have been tossing around guesses about a streaming drop almost every week since the delay began, but the wait is finally over. The specific timing appears to have been predicted after a “When to Stream” calendar update was referenced in a Forbes article over the weekend.

Even though the movie is now available for premium digital viewing, it does not automatically mean it has fully left theaters yet. A number of showtimes are still listed across many major theater chains through the coming week, which points to a gradual wind-down rather than an immediate theatrical exit.

From Matt Donato’s review of Obsession for IGN:

“Thanks to fantastic turns by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, you’ll be addicted to this sour Valentine’s Day counterprogramming. The film leans into familiar romance and monkey’s paw tropes, turning a wish against the person who made it, but Curry Barker’s execution pushes it further.”

Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in late 2025. Early signals of its impact were already visible: when IGN debuted a clip tied to the dinner-date scene—now widely known online—it quickly became one of the biggest posts on the outlet’s social media that day.

Still, it’s hard to imagine anyone betting on the scale of what followed—especially its record-breaking success, which remains ongoing.

Beyond digital, Obsession is also opening up for Blu-ray preorders, with a release date set for July 14. Both the Blu-ray edition and the digital release include extras, including a behind-the-scenes featurette titled “Obsession Unleashed.”
