Millonarios sign Juan Cuadrado on free transfer after 17 years in Europe

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado has returned to Colombian football after Millonarios confirmed the veteran winger’s arrival on a free transfer. The 38-year-old joins the Bogotá club following 17 seasons in Europe and is expected to sign through to June 2027, although Millonarios did not publish the financial terms of the agreement.

Cuadrado began his senior career with Independiente Medellín before leaving Colombia for Udinese in the summer of 2009. His move to Millonarios, the country’s second-most successful club, brings an end to a European spell that took in eight teams across Italy and England.

“After appearing on some of world football’s biggest stages, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado comes back to Colombia to wear the Blue shirt and open a new stage of his career with Millonarios,” the club said in its announcement.

European honours and Colombia record

The wide player won the Premier League during his time at Chelsea and collected five Serie A titles in seven years with Juventus. His European career also included spells with Lecce, Fiorentina, Inter Milan, Atalanta and Pisa.

For Colombia, Cuadrado has earned 116 caps and scored 11 goals. He has represented his country at two World Cups and five Copa América tournaments, making him one of the most decorated players of his generation for the national side.

Millonarios will now look to integrate him quickly as they continue their push for honours in Categoría Primera A. His first appearance for the blue-and-white side will be among the major points of interest in the Colombian domestic season, with the club adding a player whose experience spans title races, continental competition and international tournament football.
