Mikel Merino Says Arsenal Teen Max Dowman Has Lamine Yamal’s Confidence

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has highlighted the mentality of 16-year-old Max Dowman after the academy prospect’s latest senior impact, drawing a comparison with Spain and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.

Dowman has become the latest Arsenal youth player to attract major attention following his rapid progress, with Merino believing the teenager shares an important quality with his Spain international team-mate Yamal: an ability to embrace the biggest occasions.

Yamal made his Barcelona breakthrough at 16 before playing a leading role in Spain’s Euro 2024 success and their World Cup win this summer. Merino feels Dowman possesses a similarly fearless approach when he is placed among experienced professionals.

Dowman recently underlined his promise with two goals in Arsenal’s 4-2 Carabao Cup third-round victory over Ipswich Town. The display strengthened the excitement around a player who has already shown he can contribute in a senior setting.
