Arsenal broke Lille’s resistance after the hour to secure a 3-0 Champions League win at Emirates Stadium, with Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka scoring in a decisive second-half display.

The victory maintained Arsenal’s perfect defensive record in Europe this season and extended their league-phase winning sequence to 14 matches. It also underlined the depth available to Mikel Arteta ahead of a demanding run that includes a Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest and next Wednesday’s visit to Bayern Munich.
Lille had kept the home side scoreless through the opening 60 minutes, defending with discipline while Arsenal failed to convert earlier opportunities involving Bruno Guimaraes and Mikel Merino. Arteta did not make sweeping changes at half-time, instead asking his players to continue with the existing plan while making smaller adjustments.
The breakthrough arrived when Noni Madueke supplied Timber, who lifted his finish over the goalkeeper. Eze, making an infrequent start, made it 2-0 three minutes later after meeting Saka’s pull-back with a composed finish. Saka then completed the scoring in the 71st minute as Arsenal’s substitutes and fresh attacking options overwhelmed Lille’s back line.
Saka, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz were all introduced during the second half, and Eze credited those changes with helping Arsenal turn control of the contest into a convincing scoreline.
“It’s fun,” Eze said of playing in the side. “Opportunities are coming from everywhere, so you have to be ready, get into the right positions and be in the right spaces to finish moves. It’s a fun team to play in.”
The 28-year-old said the collective display had been enjoyable, adding that winning remained the priority. He also made clear that his approach will not change despite limited starts: “I always want to play and always want to score. That is the mentality. I’ll keep pushing and working.”
On Arteta’s half-time message, Eze said Arsenal had not needed a major tactical reset. “It was largely more of the same,” he said. “There were small details we changed to give ourselves more control, but we had already been doing plenty in the first half. The players who came on helped us push on, and that impact was important.”
Next tests
Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest this weekend before heading to Germany to face Bayern Munich. Eze said matches against leading European opponents are the occasions players want to experience, adding that he will enjoy the Bayern challenge when it arrives.
